No luck finding it there yet, either. Here's a place to search:

Andrew-

The ticket might have a reference to a specific vehicle code or city ordinance. These are generally "in the opinion of the officer" tickets that may be hard to pin down. Ultimately it will be a question of whether what you did was unsafe to you or others, and it's up to the officer to prove the case in court. Hire a good attorney and it will go away.

IMHO, sudden --decelleration-- is much more dangerous, but there probablis no rule about that. Good luck my red-car-driving brother!

Around here they just cite for reckless driving if your tires make noise accelerating. I personally have only gotten verbal warnings. Oh and one officer that told me he could just follow me around until I made a mistake. He was upset because I accelerated to the speed limit faster than he did without any tire squeal.

Another save by the laser jammer last night. I was driving through town (Athens, OH) on State St, which is a posted 25MPH zone, but everyone generally drive 30-35. I had just turned on to the street from a parkinglot and was maybe doing 35 or 40 when the jammer went crazy!

I immediately slowed down, and looked for the LEO. Could not find him. I turned off the jammer and immediately after that the V1 stopped barking at me - Cool he got his speed reading of me going 25MPH!

Then I saw him. The sneaky guy was parked in a used car lot. Good camouflage.

I wonder what the legality is of parking in a private lot (not invited nor asked to leave) and zapping people with lasers?

I am so glad I have this laser jammer. Without it, I would have gotten a ticket... FO SHO!

State Trooper's would park in my parents driveway before the highway moved.

I like the motorcycle cop that hides his cycle in the bushes, then hides himself behind the guard rail under an overpass. It's a nice sudden brake check when some dip**** see's this device pointed at their head from behind the shrubs.

Gotta hide or they won't generate revenue. Sitting out in the open might cause everyone to slow down, but the government's coffers would suffer if everyone obeyed the law.

Interesting how officer performance is measured. I guess if everybody was 'good', the demand fro officer services would drop. Citation count is surely a measure of continuing demand for services.

Big cities really push to get major crimes counts down, to demonstrate that we are 'winning the war on crime'. Political. Financial part is funding more officers to continue the war. Issue more tickets: Financial, with minimum political liability.

A local city decided to remove their traffic light cams because there were no verifiable safety benefits. Oh, and the lease costs are higher than revenue. Police chief: 'We want to just extend the yellow light time by one second.' That does more for safety than the traffic cams do. He is not an elected official in that town.

Right by my house, the city has had a running issue with traffic survey data that is way different from posted limits. They refuse to adjust the signage to reflect the correct speed numbers. Instead, they put up more incorrect signage and upped 'enforcement' of the wrong limit. Mention this to the officer and you get off with a warning. If you don't know the situation, you get a ticket. Politicians are afraid of voter backlash if they correct the situation. I want a refund for the new signs.

Dr. Bob, that last part really made me sick. At least there is hope for somewhere for humanity, however small it may be:

Personal responsibility, what a concept!

Dan,

Great concept. I live in a city that's branded as having the worst drivers. City, in their zeal, slows things down thinking that driving will get better. Instead, people do stupid things to relieve part of their frustration. Run red lights commonly, talk on the phone instead of driving. I was stopped when a scholol bus stopped to discharge kids. Red lights flashing. Got more than an earfull from a woman who demanded that I get going out of her way. My casual reminder of the law caused a foul-mouthed tirade. People move here from countries where traffic flow is managed by the 'bigger/richer priority' method. Understandable that those standards move here with them.

Back to Andrew's last post-- Laser jammer would be cool toy here, moreso as more laser rangefinders are used for freeway enforcement. In-town traffic offers no opportunity for speeding.

Local neighborhood where I used to live decided that they wanted speed-bumps to limit the speed of drivers actually using our streets to get somewhere. Figured that 'our' streets were there just for us local residents. I argued against but lost the battle. I did manage to track the loudest complainers, and made sure that the speed bumps were right by their houses and not by mine. It took a couple years of brakes, bump-bump, accelerate from every car, but finally they gave in and the bumps were removed. Reasonable traffic laws, focused on improving the safe flow of traffic rather than impeding it, are much more likely to be observed. In my limited experience, anyway.
