Note to self. Never drive a 928 through Michigan.
I got almost 10K for repairs from the insurance co. of the a**hole that hit me.

Andrew-

No-fault is a way that insurance companies settle among themselves. It does not relive the other driver of responsibility. Consult an expert and see if there's a way to file a civil claim for the difference, including expenses and your deductible. File directly against the driver; it's his responsibility to pay anyway; whether his insurance decided to chip in is independent of your issues. If nothing else, explain that you need to have his truck to get back and forth to work and church while the damage he did is being repaired. Also, have your insurance co show you where/how they plan to replace the damaged parts and do all the painting to as-it-was condition for $900. Show no mercy if they balk at supporting you.

Is it a big job to swap out the quarter panels for a set of GTS ones? Perhaps you could do that.
And I'm not sure, but you can put some spacers on the rear wheels to give it the GTS stance.

Hi Andrew-

please let us other Hagerty customers know how they are to deal with this kind of thing once you've gotten into it with them.

thanks!

Quick update 2:

Just went to a collision shop down the street to get my first estimate (Collex). I'll probably hit one or two others before I'm done.

I'm writing their estimate here in white... $4,100! How far is your estimate off?

I'll present to Hagerty and see what the reaction is.

Ouch! I though $3k was high. I'm going to the garage and put the car cover on, then go in backyard and bury the keys someplace.

Good news! I have a line on an '87 bumper cover in factory Red! May not even need paint. The seller is on vacation right now, but will send me pics when he gets back. Whoo hoo!

Still hagling it out with the Ins Co. They are supposed to get back with me by Monday with a confirmation/revision on my estimate.

And plan B:
Go rent a monster truck,
Drive over to the offenders house,
Give him two choices,
That he pay for all damages + expenses
Or you flatten every vehicle he owns with said monster truck...
Michigan being no fault State after all...

If they are parked, it's my fault. I'll have to catch him coming out of his driveway.

Hi Andrew,

Are you sure about this. MA is/was a no-fault state, but the way insurance claims were paid was if you weren't at fault your deductible would not be required. I dealt with this in the past, so when it wasn't my fault, it didn't cost me a cent. Perhaps MI is different from MA no fault?

P.S. Any accident invariably costs aggravation and time at the least. I hope this works out the best for you, possibly with some improvements

Yes, I'm sure. The way the Michigan Vehicle code defines it, the only time you are not at fault is when your vehicle is legally parked. Everything else falls into no-fault!
