My guess is that since he could not afford a new window a couple of weeks ago, of which, Roger GAVE him free of charge, that this $100.00 in labor is really hurting him.

What's the old fable about the scorpion wanting to get across the river, a turtle or something befriends him and gives him a ride.
Half way across the scorpion stings his benefactor
He asked the scorpion why he stung him, since they would both drown.
The scorpion replied, "Because I am a scorpion"[

Why would there be any question of Roger? He's English for god's sake! The English will tell you the truth good or bad, but give you the shirt off their back while its still on.

When I read the OP, I thought the expected outcome was established before going through the rest of the thread. That switch, obviously, is an ELECTRICAL part. Most places I've ever dealt with will not take back electrical parts for any reason (possible exception if the box was opened when purchased and was physically damaged). Most stores (including quite a few dealerships I've been in) have conspicuous signs posted to warn buyers of electrical parts - because suppliers got tired of selling to buyers who used the new electrical part to prove something else (like an electrical short in the wiring) destroyed the original then tried to return the fried new part as "defective."

My own experience had to do with the infamous distributor green wire, which a Porsche supplier built incorrectly and Porsche distributed. The problem was found soon enough and it took awhile for the "bad" wires to be located and taken out of inventories. AFTER that problem was known and the supply chain cleaned up, I ordered a spankin' new wire from 928Int'l and my freshly installed engine would not run properly (or even close). The new green wire was ruled out because it was a known "good" one. Well........ohmeter test showed the new correct green wire was, in fact, assembled improperly by Porsche's supplier. I was bummed, but not angry. Stuff happens - to Porsche, to Porsche suppliers, and to customers. A phone call to Tom got another (tested) wire shipped to me and it solved the problem. More important, 928 Int'l now knew there were possible problems even with the supposed fixed supply, and I'm assuming Porsche was also informed - all of which helps everyone involved. Based on experience, I'm certain DR or Roger would have handled it similarly. Good, reliable, and fair business practice has now become almost a rarity by it's absense. We're lucky to have several "rare" vendors in the 928 community.

That is correct, nothing is done on electrical parts, once you buy it ,its yours. Roger is being more than accommodating in this matter.

On another note, if you were to walk in to a Porsche dealership, order this same part at retail, you would notice on the invoice that:

"There are no returns or refunds on electrical parts"

This scenario was presented to our local Porsche Dealership when these nasty e-mails were being thrown around to Roger, and the dealership guys said that Rog had done way more than they would have in the same situation, and the part would have been $15.00 higher in price.

+1 I know of very few commodities that will garner a warranty after the item is installed. If the product is defective, the liability is with the manufacturer, NOT the distributor. I personally know that the 928 distributors on this list go out of their way to accomodate their customers, but it takes a LOT of b@lls to ask for labor reimbursement on a product that any good mechanic would have noticed as defective before installation.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I guess it's the cost of doing business but I for one am sorry Roger has to go through with this crap. Your reputation is beyond intact with me Roger, and I'll guarantee everyone else feels the same.

Also, thanks Roger...got the x-pipe today...Now where is that damn request for payment

Thank you all and everyone of you.
I had to step away from the computer for 24 hours to calm down and I am glad I did.
Thanks for all your support.
What a great family.

I promise to get this weeks invoices out ASAP.

moral of the story....... learn to work on your own car. It saves you lots of money and you know if the job is done right or not.I personally became tired of paying good money and not having the job done right and having to go behind the person and fixing it myself.

He's far too trusting. I have to remind him weekly on what parts I've taken home for my stable.
