Situations like this are why I ship anything valuable to my work. At one point my company was the largest FedEx Express and UPS Red customer in the Eastern US. If I call about a lost, late, or damaged shipment, they bend over. Buying power = bargaining power. Think about sending shipments to your work or a friend's work address. It can be a huge money and pain saver.

Since the shipment was insured for $2,500, that's the limit of UPS's liability, and I'm glad to see they're paying out for the full insured amount. It doesn't matter whether your damages were higher, or whether your damages included lost track time, rental cars, etc. Those types of consequential damages are irrelevant to UPS. The only thing that matters is how much additional insurance was purchased. I always purchase additional insurance to cover what it may cost to purchase a replacement for whatever it is that I'm shipping.
I hope you can get a replacement and be back on the road soon!
