Since I own the "new" version of the Dean Krenz racer....I should post

I bought it last year from Ken O'Sage for a VERY good price (you get good deals when you buy two race 928's from the same guy at the same time)....Sean bought Chucks old racer at the same time

Ken built it on 2008 with most of the parts from Dean's after the wreck at Laguna... ran it in 2010-2011.... Then I bought it in April 2012....

I have done quite a bit of work tuning things the way I like in my racer.....had the shocks rebuilt-revalved to handle 800lb front springs (600 before)...that was $1k..... Had Doc Brown rebuild an ebay sourced trans with LSD....ended up buying another used trans from Anderson to get enough "hard" parts....that cost $4k.....worth EVERY PENNY..... i also installed solid rear shift coupler bushings with Carls solid front shift cup.....

Solid steering rack bushings also helped steering feel quite a bit... Car is in the shop right now getting everything ready for the NASA season.... so I will have tech books for both SCCA and NASA....

future plans are to develop aero and more fine tuning of tires-alignment.....the search for faster times never ends......I think there is an easy 3+ seconds still on the table.....

Ouch...those were custom "upside down" shock bodies right?... I'm just running a homemade bilstein hypercoil combo (750 fronts 500 rears). Hopefully the reports of re-valving at $70 per corner is still valid...

I've dropped my rack so I will be adding the steering rack bushings soon too....

Yes.....on full heim joints..... In my opinion the front upper shock mount is garbage on a race 928....it reduces available travel and has an odd dynamic in how the shock functions-travels.....the heim joints provide a more instant response, allow a longer shock-spring

A large reason why my racer feels so much tigher and more precise vs Seans (chucks) I feel is the heim jointed suspension.....& harder bushings Ken installed.... its really hard to explain....but everytime you turn the wheel, the response is instant with the same feel everytime.....on the stock suspension mounts-bushings it just has a vague feel to it....sloppy in comparison...which is NOT confidence inspiring when you are pushing the limit

My old estate ran bilsteins with stock mounts and cut eibachs....solid steering rack bushings.....it does feel more precise than Seans, but no where near as sharp as Casper.....the only answer is suspension and lower weight....

Mark got the headers here quick..and they are on the car now. Only had to do the drivers side twice since the removable piece needs to be on there when the whole drivers side goes on...or it won't fit on there...

Got my son to clean the old bugger oil pan (came from Adams 4.7 engine that cracked a cylinder). Now to get a GB windage screen, spacer, and bolt it all together. (will be checking 2/6 first though).

and the pics..

You can spend as much on a 928 race car (or ANY race car) as you want to spend! The other way to do it is a little at a time spending very little but virtually never having a competitive race car. For some that is fine, they just want to get out on track and rub paint with anyone and don't care if the car is actually competitive in class...

Looking good, Tom. Get that stutter fixed, and you'll be screaming this year!

I finally finished going through all the receipts on the White Zombie, from late 1995 to now. All I can say is that I hope the next 18 years cost less than the previous 18 years.

does this mean you are running with us with NASA on March 17th??

3 seconds?? 1 second at most, thats my prediction, write it down. If you get 2 ill buy you an AV8SS entry for a race at Thunderhill !!!
what are you 2:01.xx now, that means you have a 1:58.xx in it with aero?

yes.....1:58 is possible with proper aero..... The fastest GTS3 cars run this over the top.....why do you think its impossible? If a E36 M3 can do it...why can't a 928 at the same power-weight

Because power doesn't matter in corners but weight does.

Maybe this was said pages ago: the cheapest track car one someone else has built and is selling. Otherwise $10k to $20k to get the car to code with basic suspension mods. Then the fun begins.

Why do people only check the #2 and #6 bearings? I know, because it seems most oil starvation failures indicate that is the source.... however, As Doc Brown pointed out in my engine refresh on the 5.0L Zyc car, #2 and #6 did show enough wear that warranted replacement but other bearings showed far worse. I think there is a bad/dangerous assumption in the 928 community that only #2 and #6 bearings fail. I would check all of them. Cheap insurance.

Hey Dan,
If I find the 2/6 to be bad...then I'll go deeper. Unless something else is amiss, I would think that a good 2/6 would suggest the others are fine. Did Greg give you any reason why your other bearing were worse?
