Bill's got it right, consider going with a lower seat. At your height, even if you find a sunroof delete 928, I'm betting you will still feel cramped.

I'm 6'6" and I don't fit too well either in my '88 S4 5sp with sunroof. Same deal with my old '85 auto. Seat is all the way back, seat back at a ridiculose angle making it an uncomfortable reach to the steering wheel and shifter with my hair still brushing the roof liner.

I tried the extended hub steering wheel, adds about 1", wasn't enough. I then bought a Momo steering wheel that is deeply dished. It got the steering wheel much closer and made it much more comfortable, plus its smaller diameter feels much better in the car.

I next tried a fixed back Sparco racing seat and I love it. Much more headroom, and I'm sitting much more upright. No more reaching for the steering wheel or shifter. Holy cow, what a difference. I can even fit a helmet on - its tight, but I can do it.

The Sparco isn't really practical for everyday use - too hard to get in and out of - although, it makes the car feel completely different, much more responsive, I love the feel.

Anyway, I'm going with a Sparco A4 seat one of these days. Will be lower then stock, but not a racing seat, more of a sport seat, so its easier to get in and out of.

Momo steering wheel with deep dish - a bit ricer so I'm going to replace it with one that better fits the 928 interior, but that is also deeply dished, and that is "D" shaped with the flat bottom so it will be easier to get in and out of the car.

And the Sparco race seat - mounted in the rear seat mount holes (there are two mounting positions about 1" apart).

how i drive the 944 now the seatback is reclined a good bit and my arms are nearly straight but thats perfectly comfortable for me. my dad would criticize me because he says that for better steering control arms should be bent but im a strong boy

so basically steering wheel isnt much of a big deal. from the sound of things i should fit fine in the car from side to side and maybe a bit cramped from head to toe...i suppose the 944 seat will do better as the front of it is maybe 7" off the floor instead of nearly 10...and leg placement isnt that important as the car will most likely be an auto, so long as its comfy for trips

I am between 6'5" and 6'6", about 210, 36" inseam. My 86.5 has the sunroof and power seats. I don't have the seat all the way back, but it's pretty close. I probably would have it all the way back if I had an extender on the steering wheel. I fit okay. I have about a half-inch between the top of my head and the headliner. The seat is reclined but not back all the way. For me, it's comfortable and I don't need to change the seats. But it would be impossible for me wear a helmet as is.

Rob Edwards is about the same height and build as me. Dwayne is 6'6", too, I think. So they can probably add a couple more data points.

I installed 944 seats in my S4. They lined up perfectly. The only installation problems were with wiring, because the previous owner had just slashed through the harness, instead of leaving the connectors in place.

I'm the same. Fit nicely but have to remember not to come forward when looking sideways like I tend to do. Stay back in the seat and everythings peachy. I can stretch my legs completely, and that's a first for me.

A good friend of mine is 6'7" about 250 and he's driven my 928s a lot, long distance too. With the comfort seats and a sunroof it's a very tight fit for him and forget about a helmet. He's got a 996 and put a set of GT3 shells in, and now he fits in there perfectly. I wouldn't have believed how comfortable those seats are, but they are fantastic and I bet they would looks great in a 928...even if they cost more than a lot of whole cars! I'll be driving his car at Talladega this Thursday.

I'll be the 944 seats are a good option, as well as the 928 manual sport seats if you can find a set.

It's about time I can sling some crap at you tall farkers. But I won't, because I'm above that.

I fit fine in mine, until it's track time and my seating position is totally screwed with a helmet on.

i'm 6'5 and I had no problems fitting in my 928, but I had no sunroof.

I fit just fine in the 951 as well.

The early OB's have more headroom before sunroofs and multi-adjusting seats became common

I'm 6' 6" and have spent most of my 928 time in the '84. On the down side, my seat is reclined way back to make the headroom so my arms are extended to reach the wheel. The workaround I like best is to bring my left foot close to the seat raising my left knee and rest my wrist on my knee cap while griping the wheel - works for long drives. On the up side of the snug fit, steering the car with your knees is a snap!!

Ed has done quite a bit of research in this area and I got some great tips from him and several others on the list. I did move my seat back to the very last position and gained about an inch in legroom. I'm on the lookout for a manual factory seat to get lower (not sure if I want to go with aftermarket seats, yet). I'm also planning on changing out the steering wheel but really like the stock wheel over the aftermarkets - but as Ed mentions, the extended hub for the stock wheel only get an extra inch. Oh yea, I'd love to get a car with no sunroof!!

Spencer - you need one with no sunroof. I am close on sunroof cars. My head rubs the top in bumps and such.

I am 5'-17" and have no problem at all in the frog (no power seats or sunroof) and in the S4s/GT and GTSs I've owned it was a tighter fit. The problem with putting the seat in the rear set of mounting holes is that you cannot recline it far enough to get the right amount of head room and leg room (at least I couldn't). An extended hub steering wheel would help a lot.

Thanks guys. I'm surprised at one guy's friend being able to fit in the 996 comfortably, every time I've gotten behind the wheel of a 911 its been cramped as hell. At least the watercoolers have the engine in the right place...

Maybe tomorrow I'll go check out my (hopefully) future 928 and see if there's room in it.

This thread shows that every 944 guy lusts after a 928. V2, next to Lart, you've been the largest (no pun intended) basher of the 928.
