Default tallest 928 owner. or, headroom in a shark?

i am addicted to 928s. ive committed myself to buying one as soon as i can afford it. however i have one concern, that the car will not be roomy enough for me.

i know that the car was designed as a GT car, to whisk you around at high speed and higher luxury. however, i am 6'6" and a large athletic frame. i know that most 928s came with a sunroof and am concerned there wont be enough headroom for me. also, legroom is a concern.

tall 928 owners, i would appreciate your input on this sizeable matter.

Dang Spencer, I still have a hard time figurin’ how you shoehorn yerself into that 944 of yours to begin with.

That said I seen to recall that most of the taller 928 owners don’t have a real problem. But for the really tall among us, I guess an option could be to look for a Shark without the sun roof (save about a 0.5”) and manual seats (fore-aft adjust only). The manual seats actually that sit a little lower provide a little more headroom.

Also a lot of people don’t know this but if leg room is a concern the peddles are adjustable but it involves a little bit of work. Likewise (to a lesser degree) the manual gear shift can also be adjusted too.

Tell ya what, my Shark has the sun roof delete and the manual seats, so the next time you get the chance you can try mine on for size.

I am 6' 4" and 944 is no problem, the 928 with a sunroof is a little tight, but worth it, now I have to add that I am not on the total fitness plan either, i.e. slightly caloricly challenged.

You really need to sit in one of these cars. It's going to be real tight. There is no doubt you will have to put the seat all the way back and down. There is an alternate seat mounting postion that moves the seat back another inch or two as well. The sunroof takes over an inch of headroom away. Yes, 928s w/o sunroofs are rare, but they are out there and you would be much happier w/o a sunroof.

I'm only 5'8" and with my racing helmet on, I just barely clear the roof liner (with sunroof) with the stock power seat all the way down.

You can pick up another 2" with some racing seats, like my Recaro SRDs. These are still very comfortable seats. They are almost too low for me, but they would be real helpful for you. The SRDs have been discontinued, but there are many others available, and they look very nice in these cars as well. Manual stock seats would be another option, as they are lower as well.

Dwayne is 6'4" (er, 6'6"). He should comment directly.

Also, are you all legs or all trunk or 50/50?

Legs is better than trunk in this car.

I am 6'-5" 290lbs. I had a 944 and upgraded to a 928. I have a 78 with no sunroof and manual seats. In the 944 I was cramped! In the 928 there is more legroom, headroom and witdth. No comparison.

Today's bad - got a lot of stuff on my plate today.

BTW I still live in Poway and am still waiting to hear back on the house I bidded on in Ramona. I'll let ya know when that happens. The only person broken up over the whole idea of the move is Matt. But if & when we move - we'll keep him at Poway high by using the ex-girlfriends address.

Other than that I'm sure we can work something out where you can swing by and see if the car is right for you.

Again while it's not an easy adjustment - the peddles can be adjusted with a little work.

I am 6'4 and ~275. Before my 928 I had an '88 944 and I had a lot more headroom in the 944. In my 928 I have power "comfort" seats and there is no way I could get a helmet on without reclining the seat to an uncomfortible angle. From what I saw when I was looking if you go for a non sunroof with manual seats you will probably have tons of room but that combination pretty much limits you to the early 928 models (78-83).

I believe a lot of guys have removed the power "comfort" seats and've installed manual "sport" seats in their later 928s. I guess that could be an option if you want a later (post-83) model.

I wonder if the manual 944 seats can be swapped in?

I'm 6'7" and close to 300 lbs.. I have an '88 with electric seats and a sun roof. To be honest I don't really fit. I did move the seat to the alternate position and that gave my legs a little more room, but I will need to install an extension to the steering column for my arms to be comfortable.

Forget about being able to wear a helmet and do autocross

I have not personally done it, but 944 seats are susposed to bolt right into a 928. I bought some 944 seat for my '83, but I have not put them in yet. I will know first-hand soon if they fit.
