Brittany, I like your concept the best, but it would probably cost too much. You would need an entire rear bumper made, in addition to to new tail lights and the bar. Not that it wouldn't be worth it to do it, but to reproduce and sell it would probably cost a few thousand per car.
You obviously have some creative skills, take some cracks at the tail lights within the current bumper opening. I would be very curious to see what another mind could come up with.

HEY Anders, Is that any way to talk to a lady!
You may not like my design. okay fine. You may not like Porsche 911's .. okay fine.
But get some manners. I thought only 911 owners were that rude.

I think that your exampel looks like a 996/Boxster wannabe and a 928 is so much more than that IMHO. If that's not rice I don't know what it looks like.
Let's be friends ok?

Anders, Okay your cool! I understand your thoughts better now, it's hard know from only 1 word.
Design.. Brainstorming takes time and lots of shared information. I plan on molding a new rear end and a new ft. end design, my good fiend is a artist and he will do anything for me!Forming plastics, Casting in foams,Polymers and resins is just one of may talents he has. To bad he married. Any way to come up with any design that will fit in existing rear cover is fine cheaper is good too. Thanks to you all for the kind words.

Yeah, if we could redesign the whole rear section, we could do a lot of neat things. I guess these are two different concepts. One idea is just a replacement lens for the stock taillights. Something classy, something ricey, depending on your taste. But when you get into redesigning the whole rear section, that is cool. Just not what I was talking about. I was just seeing what idea people prefer, if I, or someone else, could get some new lenses made for the s2 cars... What would people want? s4 style, rice style? Round? Rectangular, LED?
Speaking of redesigned rear sections, I still really like "the unnamable" shop's rear end design...

I like that design as well. For some reason, round lights just fit the lines of the S2. How about a variation of the original 2nd pic BD posted, except make one of the round lens small like in the above pic.

OK, time to chime in with The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.
Unless some crazy manufacturer really thinks they will sell thousands of tail lights, the odds are not good that will happen.
You may make an expensive prototype using stereo lithography, but that won't work for even a limited production run. Why, you ask? I have one word: "Plastics." Ultraviolet light and most transparent/translucent plastics don't have a good relationship. The reisins used in stereo lithography just won't hold up. Another reason is color - or lack of it - that is available in this process.
How about fabricating something out of acrylic (or any other commonly available plastic). See above.
In either case, you can't duplicate the refractive properties of a true lens. The result would be less than acceptable. Then you have the issue of reflectors...
IMO, what will work would be a newly fabricated bumper cover utilizing an existing tail light that everybody likes. Alternatively, a module could be fabricated out of fiberglass to fit either an S or S4 tail light cavity that would contain the aformentioned tail lights.
Assuming someone comes up wtih a workable concept, the issue of LED's still lingers in the air. The best solution would be to use readily available LED replacement bulbs. You would still have to add some resistance to the circuit, though. Otherwise your 928 may assume your brake lights are out.
I think, with a bit of imagination, replacement lights could be a reality. The unnamed concept car pictured above, could certainly serve as a design jump-off point. I have both an S and S4 rear bumper cover still in my "inventory." As soon as I can get the time, I'll work up some clay models and post them.
Geez, I didn't mean to go off on a rant - and I certainly hope no one takes any offense to my analysis.
BTW, I am not a purist. I love Jaqamond, etc. I think personalizing a car is a wonderful throwback to the early days, when you had a coach builder create a body for an existing chassis.

I like Brittany's rear-
[the picture she posted; Sorry, I'm not the marrying kind!]
B- That rear design showed not only good taste but good design sense. Unfortunately, it would require a complete redesign of the rear end, and in profile it would probably suffer as the rear would have to be extended slightly [disturbing the wheelbase-to-length ratio, which is already a bit long]
I think it is possible to indroduce 996T rear exhaust to the 928. And it looks kewl....
But I still prefer my 928 as it is-

Most guys do like my rear.. Hee Hee
But I'm not too sure about the concept rear I designed for the 928. I think the whole rear design does need to be redone. But for now a switch out lens does need to be done first. my friend said he could cast a lens or vac form lexan to make a nice convex cover. I'll post information later showing the UV resistant clear casting stuff. A LED setup to me sounds great. I'm sure someone out there can do a good job designing that.
Take note there is a big interest in this whole idea lets not let it dieout. Britt
PS what do you all think about the Exhaust?

I like your design, Brittany. In fact I have been playing with that idea for months. Im happy to know Im not alone on my tastes. :-) I cant say the same about the reflective band between the lights. Im about to trade my S4 for a GTS (plus some euros, of course) and the first thing I will do is to remove this band.
The "unnamable´s" design is elegant also.
I also like the idea of a new bumper. And of course I like leds.
Let´s keep with the idea flow!

HERE'S MY THEORY: <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/BIGtls.jpg" alt=" - " />
BRITTANY: Actually, I prefer your design. It cleans up the rear end...the tailights on the Original Series of the 928 [OS. Lets ditch the term "OB" please...] are far nicer in my viewpoint than the later cars, hence my procurement of an '85 S2. I even prefer the vertical lines- in fact, I've even toyed with the notion of a horizontal divide line- A LA Giorgio Giugiaro's original Isuzu Impulse [That design was his "Piazza" show car, designed for Volkswagen in 1980 as the second generation Scirocco...] Since the trend with cars has been larger tailights since the 1970's when the OS 928's were designed, I think that larger units look better. Hence my modification...
Normy!
