Default Computer hardware problems

The reason this is 928 related is that we cannot ship 928 parts today unless I fix this.

Our shipping computer will not stay on. As soon as it tries to boot is shuts down. I have tried removing the cards, and unplugging all the accessories but no difference. Next I replaced the power supply but sill the same problem. Any suggestions?

Can you get it to boot up in safe mode so you can retrieve files and maybe find out what's causing the problem?

What version of OS are you using?

Anything installed lately?

It won't boot up long enough to try the safe mode. It only goes for a few seconds before turning off. It is XP.

We need to talk about getting you some enterprise worthy servers and storage.

Ill ask one of my tech guys if he has ever heard of this kind of issue before.

Warning-warning-warning
. I'm just a little more than a hack at this. I have no professional training.

However, I've seen this before in one of my work computers.

One of the boot sectors might be toast and if it is, you *may* or may not be able to retrieve some other data from it. If it's at all salvageable you could do it by removing the hard drive and putting it in as a second hard drive in another PC. You may have to do something with the dip switches or jumpers (depending on what it's got) so it's addressed right. But if it works, you'll be able to retrieve the data, probably not the applications though. I'm pretty sure this won't cause any problems if I'm wrong though, so it couldn't hurt. Just ground yourself and power it down before doing any of this.

call me Ill help you 814-833-9900

I see this all the time in my industry.
99% of the time it is listed in order:

dirty memory slots
CPU fan is dead
Power supply is bad
Filter caps around the CPU on the mother board have bubbled and are bad. (usually caused by the bad power supply
Dirty CPU socket., remove the cooler and the cpu chip blow out with air

PS Its not OS related
, it is failing before it even gets there. can you get to CMOS? if so try a reset on the CMOS. Then try disableing the integrated periferals

I had something like this happen to one of my computers. The cooling fan had died so I suppose somehow the computer was seeing this and shutting down right after power up.

** I doubt this is the problem and I know nothing about computeres **

Good luck!

"dirty memory slots " I removed them and reinstalled
"CPU fan is dead" all fans working
"Power supply is bad" I changed the power supply
"Filter caps around the CPU on the mother board have bubbled and are bad. (usually caused by the bad power supply"
the caps do not show any signs of that
"Dirty CPU socket., remove the cooler and the cpu chip blow out with air"

I will try that next then call you.

There is a layer of thermal compound between CPU and CPU fan. Sometimes, after a while, this layer disintegrates which causes the fan to touch the CPU itself, and computer shuts down. Try to remove CPU fan, clean the surface and get new thermal layer on. When installing fan back, be careful not to smash this new layer.

Im on the phone, give me a few....

Did you blow out the mem slots? or just remove and re-install... I actually take a soft tooth brush to them... some people dont like to do that. But I have done it for 10 years. Just be gentle and use a soft brissle brush

Never saw that But differnt climates bring differnt issues... DO NOT TURN THE UNIT ON WITH OUT THE COOLER ON THE CPU, YOU WILL BURN UP THE CPU IN SECONDS... YES SECONDS

Taking another machine in the building and putting the hard drive from the bad one in the good machine for the short term?

You guys are good at salvaging parts right?
