Factory 928 Cup racers?

Good deal Constantine.
I found the doc on my kids computer, which I remembered was one of my old office computers. Lots of 928 related stuff on there that I gathered 5+ years ago that I need to resort and resave onto my current computer. If I come across any more stuff on the Cup Cars, or similar 928 stuff from the factory, I'll send it your way. I can't believe I lost track of this stuff, glad to have found it again.

Hi Adam,
I got the letters today from John V. Pretty cool stuff contained in a few letters. Looks like Mr. Crumb really did us 928ers a favor getting Porsche AG to tell a bit about their modifications for the 928 for this series.
This is the kind of stuff that should be more available.
Happy Holidays,
Constantine

I don't have the letter Adam mentions but I do have a couple from Kim Crumb already uploaded onto a website so people can download for themselves. Check this old post:

Look for the 1994 letter, which is about the Cup cars.

Interesting stuff; anybody know what he meant by "the intake system ....resembles the Indy system"
I assume there was not ever a 928 at Indy & he is referring to another model? I think that they used a 6 cylinder boxer motor at Indy in 1980?

Hi Marton,
I remember reading about Porsche AG building up a car that would have competed in the Indy series in the 1980s. After a lot of development work and testing Porsche did not go through with the program. I believe the article was in Excellence magazine and I know I have a copy of it somewhere and IIRC it showed nice closeups of the engine with a good description of it. Hmmm, gotta go find it and reveiw it again.
Cheers,
Constantine

Cool stuff!! Has anyone tried the oiling control used by Porcshe AG? Wonder what their oil pan baffling system looked like. What was so special about the pistons? No mention of a special crank and the con rods are stock so no stroking going on. Heim jointed suspension is standard fare for Porsche with their track cars. Would be great to see pictures of the suspension components.
I wonder if Mr. Crumb ever got that video.
Seems the track history of the 928 model is not so bland after all...

The letter indicated that they were making a video going through the points of the car with commentary.
The grass roots 928 crowd has already developed the 928 way past what the factory did way back when.

The a/r bar has a Porsche P/N 928,343,073,70 , the springs are Eibach & are dated '91'92'95 & the shocks are Bilstiens. The g/box oil cooler is an electric boat water pump, it could be an owner installation.
IIRC Kim repeatedly tried to get the video but always drew a blank.

I might have seen one of the factory adjustable swaybars. The Holbert came with such a bar, and Bill Ball has it now. (it had 3 or 4 adjustment holes to stiffen the bar up and the diameter of the bar was much thicker too)
I certainly think the developement of our cars now is in excess of the cup cars of the proposed series. If i read those specs and was going to compete in a race, there would be nothing that would frighten me, except the 16" rear rims. (i wonder if that was a misprint).

Hi Martin D
Thanks for the fotos.
Do you still have those parts & interested to sell them?
Not for me but maybe other people would be interested
