Default Adding Murf's S/C 85 Kit ? for happy owners.

I am about to take the plunge and purchase a Murf S/C Kit. I will be one of the first 85-86 pioneers so a little feedback would be helpful.
I would like to hear from any one that has this Kit installed and give an honest assessment as to the complexity, longevity and pucker factor.
One issue is an 87 and up is having knock sensors to protect the motor; this is a new area to explore for my 86 with out blowing things up. Has there been any oil blow by issues and what PSI are you running with out issues.
Does anyone have real Dyno sheets and how much pain to dial this in?
I was recommended to purchase a Enovate Lm-1 as an add on for tuning anyone else done this if so once its tuned does the Lm-1 go back into the box and collect dust?
Placate me for a while I need the mental support on this one! It seems like I may need to find a Factory chip to replace my aftermarket. Does anyone have an avenue on where to get an 86-factory chip?

Anyone with the sharktuner can get you a factory chip. Contact John Speake or DR or Louie Ott.

I had an '86 boosted up to 7psi+ that had fueling at 12:1 ratio. Put down 403rwhp. All that was before the sharktuner came into play.

Shane
Did you have any knocking issues if so how can you tell?
I was thinking about EGT and Air/Fuel meter!

I have an AEM wideband in one of my cars. Very comparable to the LM-1. It's permanently installed, and very useful for tuning. Just don't get above 12:1 under boost and you should be fine. If you pull 1 degree of timing per pound of boost, you should be safe at that AF ratio.

I was wondering can I use a wide band Ox Sensor in place of my Factory one. I do have an extra bung on my X-pipe which would work for the EGT probe, I don't want to add a third hole to the pipes if this is allowed.

Your EGT probe should be located as close to the exhaust port as possible, not further down the pipe where the O2 sensors are located. It may work but will not be accurate, a lot of heat is shed between the port and the O2 bungs.

Mark, I'll help you keep the dust off of the LM-1.

No knock, when it was first put together I had 30lb injectors and could not get it lean enough to not blow black smoke out the back, so I went back to the 24lb injectors. What I had at the time was stock chips, x-pipe, whipple twinscrew (intercooled), and a BEGI for fuel tuning. It never got lean enough to knock.

But today with the sharktuner available there really shouldn't be any issues with getting it tuned right with 30lb injectors and retarding your timing.

That is gonna be tight if you plan to keep your A/C. Ditching the stock condensor fan will help.

A front mounted A/A intercooler has been done by both Mark R. and John K. There is plenty of room if you ditch the stock grill. Plenty of inexpensive options. For a custom made A/A ic that will fit with the stock grill its a little more spendy. I think an inexpensive A/A ic can be mounted up fron while still using the grill but I haven't actually tried it.

People have tried using the WBO2 to drive the narrow band with poor results. It's probably best to keep them separate. Besides, the second bung is much too far away to give you any meaningful EGT. You need to put them in the stream right where the manifold meets the head.

BTW, the LM-1 is made by Innovate. I also highly recommend it. Without it you're pretty much flying in the dark and if a problem arose, you might not know it until significant damage has already been done. This way, if you see your AFR going lean, you can investigate it.

There are a lot of threads here on R'list here that will be good reading for you... Here are a few links to some of those threads and a couple other useful sites/threads.

I'm not sure about the LM-1 sensors, but on my AEM it can emulate a narrow band signal. Basically it scales it output voltage vs lambda so that it matches up with the output of a narrowband (0-1.5v). However it will still read the full wideband range. This is really only useful if you don't want to add a second bung for monitoring

Thanks all!
It seems to make sence to try an front mounter I/C but I need to keep the A/c Florida is no where to ditch that item.
Shawn: Pipe in, I think we could add that to Murf's kit now so I do not have to add it on later, which I know I will want to.
