Post Supercharge the S4 for $1500???

OK!
I will be taking the brackets to mount the EATON M90 (T-bird SC)to my 87 S4 to the machine shop tomorrow for the finishing touches. I will be mounting them and the blower permanently by this weekend.

Is there anyone that will want a set of these if my set up works for me? If so let me know now! I don't plan on taking it of again soon.

The only thing I will offer to have made for you is the brackets. It has been A ROYAL PIA to get these things designed and made. I have spent atleast 65 hours working on them alone. The other stuff will be easy in comparison to design/make.

Here are some items to consider.

The only car I know that these brackets will fit on is MY OWN 87 S4. Other M/Y may apply but I am sure that they will NOT fit the 85, 86, 86.5 with the wide intake.

The hood, if you choose to modify it, may be the only permanent mod. You may want to mod your crank pulley or buy a used one to mod for $78.

Yes it will stick out of the hood. The blower high point is about 3 inches higher than the top of the intake. Use your best guess for cost of hood mods.

The brackets will probably cost you in the neighborhood of $500 made by the shop I am working with. Maybe less, but we'll say $500.00 to be safe.
You will also need an outlet plenum. You could try to modify the T-bird SC part and be in for $100 total for the part and the modification if you don't get the part with your blower. A better one may be made but to the tune of, let's say, $350 to be safe. I'll have mine made this week.

Inlet plenum - same idea as outlet, same cost on moded t-bird part but less for a fabed one, say $250.

Tubing from outlet plenum to MAF, $150 to be safe. Some turbo or regular silicon tubing should do the trick. (Like the FAST kit uses)

I am using a TurboXS type S blow off valve before the MAF sensor, cost $130.

I also installed ARM1 Air/fuel ratio meter ($100 from 928 Specialists) and a boost guage, say $40.

I will using V pulleys to run mine. I have been told off record by Magnuson that it is ok up to 4 psi. I will not spend more than $100.

The blower can be had for $200 to $350 eaisly. A rebuild is $300. I got mine for $377 with tax with the T-bird inlet and outlet which included a bypass valve. I paid too much.

The brackets will install in 5 hours YMMV. Once you have everything it would take 2 full days to install YMMV. I have designed the brackets so that once they are on the blower will come off and stock air system and hood back on in 1-2 hours max YMMV.

I see this as a system that you install then can remove and reapply easily for performance driving. Example, you may put it on for Auto x with a plexiglass homemade hood. Then take it off and put the normal hood on for everyday driving.
Post your quesions here but first look for the recent post "Calling Quick Carl, Jim Nowak..."

Any one interested let me know ASAP.

Please let us know how it all works out. If you can compile some BEFORE and AFTER numbers that would be great as well! Kudos to the job youve taken on!

Andy,

Care to share with me your email again.

Sometimes things happen, like loose em, misplace them etc..

Would like to talk with you on the supercharging idea.

928 Maniac,
I will advise the shop that you will want a set so that they can do what ever they need to do to make them for you. I'll let you know how my set up works hopefully no later than next weekend maybe by this weekend. Then you can give me the word to have them made and we can make arrangements.

Sab,
I'll try to give a quick rundown of my project as I wrap it up. I have a few pics of work in progress that I could e-mail you. I havent had much luck posting pics but maybe I'll try again.

Thank you Tony. I went to the drag strip this past Friday, my times are posted on the board. I'll do the strip and then dyno soon after installation.

Sab,
Here are some pics of the work in progress to give you some perspective. In all the pics I have placed a stick 1.75 inches wide across the fenders to simulate the hood line. The white object on the intake is 4 inches tall. When it is set in place correctly it may be .5 inch higher. My motor mounts probably sag a bit but I have seen much worse.

http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/M90frontsb.JPG

Ignore the black and brown object at the rear of the blower in this picture. It is something leaning against the wall.

http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/M90fromright.JPG

I am thinking that what ever covers it will be no higher than the lights in on position and no higher than the windshield wipers. Maybe I’ll just make a seal between it and the hood with something like door molding and have it visible.

Andy,

I have a spare straight hood from an '85 shark I can let go real cheap, if you want to play with for your mods...

How about putting an air inlet in the front or side of your (ahem) buldge for a ram air effect?

PorKen,
I've had several similar ideas:

1 Put the blower under a little scoop with the opening at the front - air blows over cooling it some what, then into the air filter that will be behind the blower.

2 A smaller version of Chris Lockhart's cowl induction setup.

3 Just leave the hood off put on some hydraulics and get back to front, side to side. After all I am in LA.

Things that make you go...HMMMMmmmmm
This is what I'd try and duplicate. Would look different on a 928 due to its clean lines but a pretty clean solution none the lessIMHO

speaking of superchargers, can anyone tell me what car might have a turbo charger style(paxton??) supercharger? It seems the other style (roots???) would be to much of a pain to install.
Or where to get them cheap? I looked on ebay but can find much, or cheap.

Actually this isnt for a 928 but a car with a 2.8liter 6 cylinder.

which is why im looking for a cheap SC.

Tony,
Here are several hood scoops that I have been looking atright here. AT475, SC110, PR6, PR63, SC104 and several of the cowl induction scoops. Most are bolt on so I would get it pain matched and bolt it on using the same stuff that separates the bumper cover from the fenders between it and the hood.

I actually drove the car today with the blower almost completely hooked up. I drove 1/4 mile before the MAF sensor blew off the rubber piece that connects it to the throttle. I ended today's work session with the drive back.

With the boost gauge connected to the tubing from the blower to the MAF I saw the needle hitting above 15 PSI at times NOT durring throttle back-off. I never turned above 4000 rpm. At idle it makes 4psi, and boost rises quickly above idle speed. I think I am turnnig the blower too fast. The crank pulley is about 7.5" and the blower pulley is about 3.5". I am on to vacation this week, more updates in 2 weeks.
