Looks like I have 3 sets of 86 cams and need 1 set of S4 cams. What I have is 3 each of:
928 105 291 E1-4
928 105 292 E5-8
928 105 293 A1-4
928 105 294 A5-8
Anyone have a set of S4 cams they want to trade for a set of these 86 cams? If not, anyone want to buy a set? $300 plus shipping
928 105 291 E1-4
928 105 292 E5-8
928 105 293 A1-4
928 105 294 A5-8

Stan...........are the 86 cams similar/same profile as the GT cams?
Also, are those part numbers stamped directly on the cams...........didn't match PET 6?

Hi Malcolm,
Yes, they are the performance grinds known to be similar to GT cams.
Those are the part numbers on the cams, and you can see in 928intl.com store they are correct for 86 cams.

Couple of questions for Ken/Mark:
whats mods have to be done to the 86 cams to run in the S4 heads?
the cam swap can be done without removing the engine?
any special tools required?

you send the cams to Elgin Cams to modify the bearing surface (extend it) on the driver side exhaust cam. all other cams fit, perfectly, but ALL the rear ends of the cams need to be cut off too. you can use a hack saw, of have elgin do it like i did! (much nicer)
Its a $400 modification. tell'em, i sent you !
no, the engine doesnt need to be removed. just pull the cam covers and the rest is like a timing belt job, only more complicated![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Malcolm--
Choose wisely and carefully on this change. It's a bit of work and a bit of expense for 10 top-end ponies at the expense of 10 low-end ponies. With the A/T and 2.20 gears, it will hurt you more on day-to-day driving than it will help in those few 4k -> redline pulls. You can realize almost the same results with PorKen's cam indexing setup and a degree or three of adjustment there. Much easier, much faster, much cheaper. And very easily reversible when you discover that diesel Rabbits can out-launch you...

Appreciate the input Bob and your points are probably why I still own my S4 and not a GT.
When I first saw Stan's post this morning I typed before realising that the cams are not a bolt in for the S4 so after that enlightenment and the MK post re. the work and $$ my interest dwindled.
I do have Kens cam indexing tool and have my cams advanced for more down low go............top end is already quite sufficient.
Once my intake project is complete I believe the car will be running as good as it gets............then comes the blower.
