James, snag the Probst book on Bosch Fuel Injection Systems from Amazon.com or somewhere. It's cheap, very good from a theory and basic diagnostic perspective, and you'll be the local FI wizard.

Dang! I thought about building something like this for years, but never got around to it. It will be really interesting when/if they add ignition to it. They don't need the actual ignition in the thing, just a signal coming out to trigger the existing ignition box. When you can tune timing and fuel at the same time is when you have really good control (like the Motronic). I suspect the reason they make aftermarket firmware for the Motronic cars but not for the D jet cars is that there is only so much you can do when you cannot control the timing. In stock form I'm not sure EFI 928 really needs this. Its the 914 guys with the old D Jetronics that REALLY need it.

As far as the coolant temp sensor goes, it doesn't seem to be that big a deal to recal the system to use the Bosch OEM one. We'd need to get a sensor and determine it's characteristics first, then plug those values into the program they provide. We need to determine the resistance values at a given temp like:

Those values are for the GM sensor.

FYI, I ordered the PCBs for the megasquirt and the relay board, also the diagnostics board. Should be here in a few weeks. May be megasquirting in as little as 3 months.
Which brings up a question. Does anyone know what resolution the factory fuel maps are? The standard MS maps is 8x8, or 64 points along the RPM scale. There is an option to modify the software to use higher resolution maps. If i knew what factory was, then I would go a few steps beyond that for finer control.

The factory Bosch system uses a 12x12 map for partial-throttle mode. There's also a higher resolution 16-cell map for WOT. This map is selected by a combination of the WOT throttle-switch and the AFM flapper-door swinging open past a certain point.

Don't rely on this for ignition settings. By the time it's picked up and adjusted, it's too late. You want to manually specify each and every ignition value on the map. A skilled tuner can pick up knock on the dyno sessions if you have a Mustang dyno so you can easily test every portion of the map. Knock & detonation also shows up on the dyno-charts as jagged curves. Again something a skilled tuner can interpret. Then set your ignition map about 2-3 degrees below this level for safety. At this point, the knock-detection can come into play as a safety device in the event you run into some bad gas or really hot outside-air temperatures.

Remember that the dash tach. uses a grounding signal to drive it. You'll have to add an switching circuit to invert the signal.
The EFI system that's always been my hero is the GameBoy console that was converted to control a 2-cylinder engine! The ultimate one I'm looking for is the PalmPilot EFI systen done all through software. Then you can just unhook the PalmPilot and take it with you; the ultimate alarm system!
