He has not pulled the trigger but he did test drive an Austin Martin DB9 for a day but felt it was to similar to his Ferrari 575. He did let me drive the DB9 and it was a blast.

OT as long as we're talking "other" cars. Saw new Maserati yesterday, Rt 83, Coram, Long Island . . . . with Florida plates. Why would somebody drive their Maserati to NY in well, March from Fla? It's their daily driver??? Some people.

Why wouldn't he drive it? After all, it is a car, something that is designed to be driven. Better to drive it than to have it sit in a garage all year collecting dust.

cars i know are meant to be driven, but if i had the $$$,$$$.$$ i would buy a damn DB9 just to walk out into the garage and look at it.
Seeing the DB9 for the first time invoked that same "gotta have one" feeling the 928 did....if not more.
I still just look at my 928 now and then in the garage and think...Life is good!......then drive off to home Depot in it to pick up 6 concrete blocks and half of a full size Oak wine barrel (use as a planter box)! ...and school a Boxster S on the way home with a wift of cabernet around me.

A most emphatic +1

The DB9 is the ONLY car besides the 928 that makes my pulse race. That car just does it for me. IMHO, it's the spiritual successor to the 928. Big front engine, RWD, four seat grand tourer, all wrapped in an absolutely gorgeous exterior. If I ever have the money...

BTW-If you have access to back episodes of Top Gear, the 5-9-2004 episode (DB9 vs the train) is a must see for any Aston Martin fan.

I think the 612 Scaglieti is a great Gt cruiser, in the same vein as the 928.

She loves the aston. She actually points them out, and reminds me every time she sees one. I'd love to be able to get her one.

I think the AM V8 is a better looking car in person then the DB9. I saw a few AMV8's in London and thought they looked so much better then the bigger DB9. I think the photos of the AMV8 dont do it justice. Its proportions are really spot on if you ask me. But is ONLY like 420 HP.

The chasis seems like it could handle more. Like 600 or so would be good.

I love a thread with a happy ending - a beautiful 928 GT is in good hands.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I agree with you guys about the stylings of the Aston Martin line, especially the new Vantage. I got to see a sweet pair - coupe and convertible - in person recently at our little local wanna-be-Detroit-auto-show and they really are sheer rolling high art.
FYI - a little blurb in the latest Road & Track mentioned that for a fun excercise the AM gents shoehorned their 6.0l V12 (600hp / 509ft-lbs) into a Vantage. Apparently it was quite a tight fit. They claim 0 to 60mph in 4 secs, 100mph in 8.5, and estimate 191mph top.
CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez ws quoted as stating that this was a "concept" before adding, "It will cost about $326,000 if we get around 100 orders. The final price depends on how much interest there is in the car". Yes, Ulrich, I 've got interest... but not Lambo-price-level interest.
Man, I can't wait to pull one of those V12 specials out of muddy field 30 years from now. Hope there's an AM International to buy parts from.
I would imagine a DB9 is very similar to a 575......but if a 575 is good than a 599 is better right?? He should borrow one of those for a day....the 575 would be GONE...
