Electro-Luminescent Gauges.... Installed !!!!

I am definetly ordering for my 1988 S4 A/T. I guess I will have to wait until someone comes up with a 180 mph speedo face and an A/T Tach face for them to tool it. I sure I wish I had them to donate. I did notice that when ordering, there is an option for 180mph on the site. Hopefully we can get all the variations covered and 20 people on board.

Okay, you guys got me wanting some too. Black reverse indigo would suit me just fine. I echo Randy's sentiments.

I'm in too. As soon as there is a confirmation on the design for the AT.
Was there ever a solution found for the warning lights other than the black face? Isn't possible to have the faces illuminated and the warning lights still shine through without the cutouts?

Weissach,
Your link to Speedhut is to the Reverse Indiglo (numbers glow)order page. Those of us who want to see our our pointers at night should go to the indiglo (dial glows) page at

Can you get them to offer an adjustable red line i.e 6000 or 6250 ?? I See it is on offer on other cars.
As someone else posted the speedo versions seem to be covered.
If you can get an auto tach just about everyone should be covered.

For the reverse indiglo gauge faces, how is the needle lit? The example pictures don't show a needle. Is there a replacement illuminated needle? Would it require recalibration of the gauges?

The stock needles are used. When I asked, Speedhut said that they do not offer replacement needles. Different needles would require the gauges having to be recalibrated, because of their different weight.

For the Reverse lighting, I think the best way to go would be this option: See Pic.. This way, you can have the reverse effect and be able to see the needles at night. This is what has been done to solve this very same problem, in the 944 (same lighting). The needles will appear black in the center ring at night, like in my car (non-reverse). Go back to the first page and see the needles. They are very visible and still worlds ahead of the stock setup in terms of charpness and contrast at night. Or, you can still have the stock illumination along with your new gauges.

Weissach,
I already put my order in and payed for the guages. Do you think you can communicate a change order for me? I would like mine to be exactly like your most recent post/example.
I tried to email you offline but your profile doesn't have your email address?
Thanks,
Jim Nowak

Well, I just made 10. Apparently, once 20 is complete, they will email you to ask for any specific changes. So, it really doesn't matter right now as long as you just submit your Visa #.
So what are the pros and cons of each style? Here's my start. Anything else to add.
Indiglo - Very Bright, Use existing needles, No Recalibration
Reverse - Sleek, match up with the black warning lights

Now here's my crazy idea.
Use the reverse indiglo so we can preserve the black face and the discreet warning light set up.
Keep the stock lighting but with some sort of black light that would cause the needles to light up but nothing else.
Am I crazy? Is it possible? Is it too ricey? Maybe, but maybe the right color combination could make rice look nice. Could just require a black light (no idea how hard this would be) and a tasteful flourescent paint for the needles.
Just an idea.....it's never simple, is it?

I don't think anyone has elaborated yet on how these new gauge faces are powered.
Do they work off the existing dimmer switch? How is power routed from the circuit board connector to the power inputs for the illuminated gauges?

You can get them in any color, it's all the same price. If you want them in "factory black/white numbers", that's no problem. As far as brightness, there is a dimmer included. They are VERY EASY to install. Just get a 12 volt source from your light ****, that's it. They also use alot less power than the factory three bulbs set-up. <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
