Thanks for the pictures...

I just wanted to pass along some new information. I asked them -NOT- to bill when the 20 orders are completed. Now, they will bill you after they are designed and ready to go. They will e-mail you to confirm your options and colors(some might want to make changes).-- When you give them approval, then they will charge your credit card.-- This way, you know exactly what you are getting before you get charged. Now, there is no risk in placing your orders. If you don't happen to like the way they came out, just decline them.

Let me see if I understand via this summary.

1. They need 20 orders. 10 additional if you want the prnd32 to show up for 86.5 - 88 automatic models ( like I have). There is not a listing on their page for extra automatic so I can not place my order - yet anyway.

2. You can get black guages with reverse indiglo and they will look exactly original in the day and the numbers glow at night. They will have cutouts for all the different warning lights - but only if you order black. If I order white they will not have the warning light cutouts - they will just have to shine through.

3. If you keep the standard lighting in addition to the indiglo and set it on high you will be able to see the needles - correct?

Please correct or add anything. Also, great job to those making this happen.

I have an 88 auto and have already placed my order. I believe some of the other 16 orders are possibly for 86.5-88 autos as well. They stated that they will straighten out all the auto/manual orders and have a listing on the site for autos in a week or so. A 928 parts supplier is sending them an auto tach face as we speak. I listed on my order options that I needed the 88 auto version to eliminate confusion. I do not believe that it would hurt for you to go ahead and order if you wish. As you will see on their site, the face plates are offered in a variety of colors. All of the colors will have cut outs for the warning lights, but the cut outs will not be as visible with the black faces. Thus making for a stock look. Weissach can back me up on this? It is my theory that with an adjustment of the reverse indiglo dimmer and the existng cluster lighting dimmer, a good balance of needle and gauge illumination can be achieved.

My unresolved questions are the same as Jerry's.

Thanks for your input Mike - is that the official word on these issues?

Yes, you can have a the "stock look". Just get the "reverse" option. Get a black face and white numbers(factory colors). They will look 100% stock during the day, at night the numbers will glow. For the warning lights, they will have cut-outs. But if your face is black, the lines for the cut-outs will be VERY hard to see. You also play a little with the fonts and still have the factory look. There are four different types. The "Eurostyle" one is the same as our cars. But you can also pick the "Beetlestyle"(like on the Boxster). For the logo, you can put anything you want(928,928S,928S4-GT,GTS,GTR....anything).

For the white faces, the cut-outs will show. Whenever the face is "thicker", viewing the warning lights is not possible. This also happens with aluminum gauges(from 928 Specialist). With the normal "old style gauges", they can make it thin enough to shine through. If all of our faces were the same(like the 944s 86-91), it would not be a problem. But almost all the years have something different.

If you stay with the stock lighting in addition the the indiglos, you will be able the see the needles at night. But they will also offer the option of the "circle in the middle", so that you can see the needles. This ring however cannot be done in black(unless you want a white circle in the middle of the back), just on the colored ones.

The cutouts don't look bad, just different. This picture is from "Jager".

The Boxsters font looks to be somewhere between the beetle and swiss font. The 928,933,and 996s is the eurostyle font. Here is one from the 996, seen the differences in the fonts. It's subtle..

I think that I will stick with the stock eurostyle letter. My initial goal is to stay as "stock" looking as possible. Of course, if you guys keep on giving me ideas, I might change my mind.

I just had a second look at the 78" cluster. ALL the warning lights will show because of the cut-out. I thought that it would have some hidden ones, but it those not. The entire cluster only has 8 warning lights(four at each side). The newer ones have over 16. It does not have warning lights for any of the engines vitals, timing belt, ext....(like the newer ones). It just has fuel, light, volts, temp, and oil pres. These are things that can be seen by looking at the actual gauges anyways. Let's stay positive We are almost there...

That is a plus, but the thought of having the numbers face the wrong direction leaves me uneasy. It's a great look, but I agree with the purists amongst you in trying to keep it looking relatively stock. (And yes, I do realize the inherent irony in having had my roof chopped off, and siding with the purists.) I wouldn't even mind going a bit in the aftermarket-looking direction, but sideways is just strange.

You all have a good night!

Weissach posted a pic on page 2 showing the reverse indiglo fonts with the center part of the tach and speedo glowing so as to allow the needles to be seen at night. That seems to be the best of both worlds without having to mess with LEDs or existing lighting for the needles. How can this be specified when ordering? I have an 85 Euro Automatic with the PRDN32 in the dial. Is this considered part of the 86.5 automatic group?

Now that I have taken a second look at the pic, I believe the only way for the center of the dials to glow is to have a dial that has a translucent color such as the white as shown. I have ordered the Black dial with White fonts so the center can't glow. Looks like I'll be looking into the U/V LEDs.

BTW: Does anyone know if the cut-outs for the warning lights will work for the German Language warnings?
