928 race car done in 2 weeks! Sneak peek of interior:
***THIS THREAD IS OVER A YEAR OLD*** Go to post #29 for an update
All that is left on the interior is to reinstall my LC-1 (original is faulty), recover my kick panels and dead pedal, and put in my CF floorboards. I didn't make the dash, but I did make the other CF pieces. The seats were my first venture with a sewing machine; I think they turned out pretty well.
I came in about 20 minutes ago from sanding my 2k primer. A coat of epoxy goes on tomorrow, then 24 hrs later comes the color. Clearcoat goes on Sunday, I go on vacation for a week, then I'm putting the car back together. I'll post a short story on this incredible venture when I finish the car in a few weeks. For now, let me know what you think about the interior. I've also got a few cool tricks to show later, but I don't have time to list all the stuff right now.
By the way, I didn't put the starter button in there for the hell of it. My ignition switch is f'ed up, so I rewired the ignition to an aftermarket switch in conjunction with the button. Where the ignition switch is located remains to be told, but you might notice the driving light switch isn't in the correct location...

Here is a before pic for comparison, the latter is from when I painted the interior about 8 months ago. I took a 6 month break from working on the car due to school.

Very impressive conversion! Wow - that's all I can say!
I guess you won't be ordering a wood interior trim kit from me any time soon...
Best of luck, and keep us updated on the car and your racing activities with it!

With LOTS and LOTS of man hours that I'm sure Mark can confirm!!
Typically it's with a scraper, heat gun and mineral spirits or thinners.

How did you clean off the tarry stuff that's all over the interior panels?

Can't wait to hear some stories after you've had some time to tear up the track! Nice job.

Very nice!! Is that the Honda S2000 start button? I've been thinking about adding one to my track car.

I have some questions:

thats how i wanted my interior to turn out! the rush to the race track was just too great!!
What have you done to the motor and the rest of the car? where are you going to be tracking it?
very nice job on the interior. as a note to others, if you dont want to strip the interior, you can use the bed liner paints that are thicker and have texture to paint the interior, and then spray the roll cage separately. I only wanted to spend a $100 to do this on mine, as the paint is pretty expensive, but for another coat i could have done mine like this. Now, i wish i had! (however, more weight!!)

Thanks a ton for the compliments; it means a lot after all of the work I have put into it. The tar came off with a ton of patience, heat, and acetone. That's pretty much all there is to it, justs hours and hours. The car was originally a 5-speed, so no conversion here.
The starter button is a "Pivot" button I got off of ebay for 10 dollars. It comes with a little relay. The carbon fiber was made with epoxy resin; after I made the parts, I wet sanded it and polished it. I didn't make the dash. I bought it about a year and a half ago from some sketchy company that almost took my money.
The blue thing is an accusump with a manual valve. I might switch to electric later, but when I ordered it a good while ago, I didn't feel like fiddling with the wiring of the electric valve. You can see the valve handle to the left of the shift ****. That is in the closed position. The seatbelt thing is the front attachment for my right side restraint. This is a requirement for NASA racing now, and I wanted one anyway since I don't have a containment seat.
I forgot to add a picture of the front of the seats... maybe a bit over the top for some, but this car is about aesthetics just as much as it is about being a race car. No offense to those with them, but I can't stand the look of unfinished race cars.
