Great idea - but IIRC he said he only wanted to spend a thousand bucks or so...
rebuilt engine or not, unless you're a porsche 928 nut, 155k is alot of miles for a 20 plus year old car to start with a 5k min bid, imo.
there are plenty of them out there that hover in the 3-5 range, with lower mileage. On ebay I don't think he'd get more than 4 tops. any more would have to come from someone from a place like here, or so it seems to me.
don't think it matters too much when the auction ends, if it's not priced right, it will sit, if it is, it will get bid on,

think anyone is going to bid 45k for roger clement's 87? or the 70k starting bid for the GTS. I don't think so. also just saw the black koenig in japan is back on the market, even though it sold last time; guess it was harder getting the thing back in than they thought, or winning bidder had no money which is not all that unusual.

Beth!!! how the heck are ya? Say Hi to Rich!

BTW, I think you should take this as a sign -- that car doesn't want to leave you. Now that you've got it all cleaned up, drive it like it was meant to be driven!

Nice car. It will sell, but they have to start the opener lower than that with a 5k reserve. Get people to make that mental commitment to buying it... once they've clicked that 'bid now' button once they'll get competitive and whatnot.

I have an interest in the car and love the color.
Mileage is low in my books for the price. Depending on what you are going to do with it.

As the seller would not ship the vehicle and only allow pick up - that killed it for the vast majority of the country. Most eBay sales are shipped with the buyer paying shipping charges.

This is a nice car. If I remember correctly this car came from my neck of the woods.

I think thats probably the bigger issue for most. The thought of a lower starting bid with a $5k reserve makes sense too. For someone to have to pick it up means you might have lost half the country right from the start, less they have 4 days & airfare to come to the west coast. And although many here may be willing to do that for the right car, many ebayers are not as dedicated.

I think its worth every bit of $5k though for what that 928 has to offer. For the unique color combo, being a 5 spd & all the work in the past 30k miles, someone will be getting a very nice shark. Although the 155k miles might scare off some less knowledgeable about the longevity of a 928, thats not high milage for one, as verified by many on here with much more miles than that.

One last thought to market it better. Get some better pics of the car. Ones that show off the unique green color better & less clutter in the background. Think if you'd consider willingness to allow shipping, starting with a lower minimum bid & your $5k reserve, with the right pics, & you'll have more than enough willing buyers.
Good Luck!

if that was on the east coast I'd have snagged it... very unique color combo
though it's going to still need quite a bit of work, would make a great car
biggest probem is going to be finding another drivers seat

Thanks for all the tips on selling cars on EBAY.

This is the first time I've done this - so I obvioulsy have a lot to learn.

Yeah, my pictures suck. Next time I'm parking the car in a vineyard or infront of a winery with the sunlight perfect, etc.

I didn't consider the ending time of the auction - oh well.

And we would consider shipping - sheesh - just ask.

Anyone have any questions about the car????

(ps. hi dave)

I agree Roger the seller should make it clear they will cooperate with any and all shipping efforts.

I disagree that most Ebay sales include the shipping charges. Speaking for myself, every bike I sell that gets shipped the customer pays the fee although almost always I make the arrangements.

Beth:

Nice, well-written, complete ad for an eBay 1st-timer. I was going to say what Mel said. The key is great pictures, a complete description (already done) and a low opening bid (with a reserve if you are nervous about the auction). A low opening bid can be anything - the lower the better. That will get people not only looking but bidding and it ultimately drives the selling price higher. Good luck.

Hope to see you on May 12th at Sharks in the Park (still need to get the announcement out).

Also, if you want help doing ANYTHING else to the car to help sell it, I am completely available now (got laid-off) and the charge for my work is the same as always - drinks and snacks.
