My wife's primary banger (Camry) is pushing 200k miles. My son-in-law's Corolla has 248K miles on the original engine. Runs fine. My other daughter has nearly 222K on her Camry...and mostly regular wear items arre the change outs over the years. Why can't USA emulate that quality congtrol? Admittedly, 30 minutes on a track and all three Toyos would self-destruct...whereas a Porsche doesn't.
I kick myself for not getting LSD but some who know me say I'd have killed myself if I had had LSD on the track. Pros/cons...but I still desire LSD.
Oh yeah...the Chinese just bought rights to produce the MG...therefore the 928s should be safe while the Chinese learn some hard electrical/reliability lessons.! Maybe they can get Mad Magazine to promote the car?
What a nightmare a chinese 928 clone would be! What a horrible thought! If Wal-Mart were to produce a Rolls-Royce, what would the build quality/reliabiiliy be like?
In the USA, we get so wigged out and build up so much steam in an attempt to chase horsepower and reliablity long after it has left the barn. Now the hangup seems to be on beating out the PRIUS, as if batteries are something you can always count on.
Most people buy cars based on looks, color, and what the neighbors will think anyway. Give these buiild guidelines to an engineer and it they can skip the DIY stuff. The 928 really is looking better to me by the minute.
As has been so well pointed out, the coup d'grace for (at least) the US auto industry may be the evolving mentality of..."Oh...it's not shifting smooth enough? Let's bolt in a sealed, new transmission. Afterall, if Rolls can father the concept why shouldn't we screw it up?
I feel slightly better today (but you can't tell from my mood). Just woke up realizing that the ER nurse who acknowledged coming down with a cold did not wear a mask, while sitting under a sign admonishing everyone (else) to do this just that....So I got a cold on top of my operaation recovery. OT item. I hate going to hospitals. Houses of ill repute must be cleaner...or at least the variety of diseases is limited. No long topics...head's not up to it. 928 uber alles!

Which begs the question....what are posts looking for? Some useful tidbit of info for maintaining/debugging our 928s or a vain attempt to search out some meaning into why some things are the way they are, why there's not really a reasonable alternative to move over to from the 928, etc? Or to hear ourselves ramble. I'm probably accused of the latter. I have a two word response but it's too early in the morning. I can give it in a couple or so languages, if needd. No personal offense here, I'm just trying to stay ahead of a spinning head and the track is moving clockwise. Strange.
If you want the comic book version of Rennlist move over to the Audi TT forums....they seldom say anything beyond the subject line, except when talking after market ghetto wheels..then they toss is some photos accompanied by soft music. Makes you wonder if they're making love to their hubcaps?
Yea...talking about LSD and cars in the same sentence raises eyebrows. PSD sounds like a monthly thing to me. I still think limited slip is probably good stuff to have. Heinrich's had both...wonder what he thinks? People like Kibort? Did Hanson go over to the VW dark side or just discover women?

Drifting
The early cars have their charm and desirability too. MacReel and others have found a reliability level that’s enviable. They just drive and drive and drive….and enjoy and enjoy. A little dust on the car doesn’t send them into orbit. And 99% of the world probably could not tell a ’78 from ’95 at 10 feet.

H2, now what you mean about getting "upside down and staying there" These are expensive to own, but most if not all of us knew what we were getting into. As for my 83 S2, I will have it, and will do what I have to to maintain it, until my kid pries the keys from my fingers...

OK, My 2 cents.
The 928 was $100k car all over the world.
And now that the cars are 10-25k We are very lucky to have the 928!
If you buy a 599, good for you. I love that car but! BUCKS.
We found the best!

THREAD DREDGE TIME AGAIN!!
Harvey-
I think I subscribed to this thread as an excellent example of 'posting under the influence'...
Thankful everyone appears healthy (at least from here!)
Not the deepest thread dredge I have witnessed... but I still love sharing. . .

We are incurrable nostalgics. I admit, the 928 was and is a great car for us, as WE seek for the perfect blend of performance, looks and comfort at the price we can afford. Do you really think you wouldn't buy a Ferrari 599GTB or a Aston DB9 if you had the BUCKS?! You would! I would! Don;t get me wrong, I paid an equivalent 34 000 usd this summer for my '91GT, I wanted this car since I was in high school, I love it! This is the ultimate supercar for our bucks, but if we had millions bucks we would have bought a Vanquish or a Veyron instead.

I will tell you, upfront, when I bought my first 928, it was love at first sight. Then, like getting married, reality hit after dropping some $8K into it in the first year. Then, again (like a good marriage), it was worth the money even if absolutely not inexpensive. I'd hate to calculate the dollars per mile it cost me to drive it though. I'm not kidding, it was dollars per mile. Once I got it sorted out and perfect, I sold it, and am now going through the process again with an S4.
However, I'm still married to the same woman I married 40 years ago. I'm better a picking wimmen than cars.
Hey...gotta run. Wife wants me to do the dishes, wash a few clothes, iron, and then fix her something "light" to eat. And the ^%$# S4 needs a few things too.
