With virtually no damage to the roof, you have to wonder how the car was coming through the air. Was the tree growing at a weird angle? Had the car already completed 3/4 of a barrel roll? Was the car beginning an inside barrel roll? Junior accident investigators around the world want to know.

Somone mentioned earlier that it went down a 15 ft embankment/hill/cliff and that might explain how it wasn't a direct side impact but a little bit from the bottom which might also explain his escape with only a fractured pelvis.

I'm glad he is not dead or very badly injured after that smash. That tree had his name written all over it, he is lucky.
I've not got much to say in the way of justifying travelling at speed in the wrong conditions, it's just an accident waiting to happen. Looking at this car has told me to think about the surroundings a little more, slow down for tree lined roads.
I travel through some great 928 roads on my way home from work (av 90 MPH), it's dry with no other cars around, but through scrub. No matter how good a driver you are, one day you will get cought out, at least when on public roads. SPOOKY S^&*
This is how own Legendary Racing Driver Peter Brock lost his life in a modernised '69 Daytona coupe in a rally through forests in Perth. Peter was nicknamed 'Peter Perfect' because of his unbelievable driving skill. He was incredible to watch. RIP Peter.
Thats another 928 thats bitten the dust it looks like.

I blame Miami (my birthplace) for that bad driving rating in Florida.
I have to agree with cooleyjb on the impact being from the car dropping on the tree going down the embankment. He's fortunate for that too since the frame took quite a bit of the impact and not just the door.

You might be right, but I just can't visualize that kind of damage from the car dropping flat through the air onto a tree below. To have that much penatration, at least 12 to 18 inches, and still not affect the roofline, indicates it either hit with a tremendous amount of lateral force or the orientation of the car was not flat upon impact. The only other explanation I can think of is the tree was sheared off at the window area of the door but I think that is unlikely. In any scenario I can think of, where there would be that much damage to the side and none to the roof, the car has to be slanted top away from the tree or the tree has to be slanted top away from the car.
I have to agree with cooleyjb on the impact being from the car dropping on the tree going down the embankment.

It's good the 928 has such a wide girth. You notice how much room there is between driver and the door, especially when I had so much room I could install the door speakers with the door closed.
Hope there's no other injuries other than the hip. Looks like an angled lower hit so he didn't hit his head against the door or window.
Ernest (NYC) With the idiots pretending to be driving around me, sometimes wish I could drive with a helmet on. Wonder how much hassle the Polizei will give me for that.

That's why in your 928, you should always go faster than your alpha waves.
