For simplicity, I'm changing from using cam° to crank°. The new tool measures in 1/2° cam, or 1° crank increments. All numbers below are in crank°.

From the results that I've seen and heard of, using the first version of the tool, the factory setting for all 32Vs was most often:

R = 1° adv | L = 2° adv | (L = US driver's, cold engine, ±1°)

Because of this, I moved the 'zero' hole to 2°, again, for simplicity. Your engine may be slightly different when measured using a dial indicator, but the new 1° holes should make it easier to baseline. For a basic setting, you could use the top row for the left cam, and the lower for the right. The right cam is retarded slightly when cold, to compensate for engine expansion advance.

In order to cut down on laser cutting time (each hole requires the laser to 'home' first), I would like to limit the tool to 10° advance, and 8° retard. Is that going to be enough?

I would think that would be plenty of adjustment for most of us.
How long do you think it will be before you start shipping these jewels?
I have my motor out now and would love to have one for when the heads get back.

I have to get one set made to test the design, and see if the shop is bending it properly. If the test indicator measures up, then I'll start collecting for the minimum order, probably (20). So it could be as soon as two weeks.

Thanks, Gio, but I'm not ready to take names, yet. I'm sure there'll be 20 folks, and I'll order as many as that pay for the first lot. From then on, it will be 10-20 minimum, depending on the quote I get.

Roger is prequalified (via parts bribery), there were (3) folks that paid a PayPal deposit, and a couple that sent me checks (which I have not cashed), when I threatened to make these last year.

+10 -8 seems like plenty since Louie tested +3 vs -3 with about a 7hp difference.....

I've found on the 16V that over 8° seemed to clip the top end too much. I run 8° on the '81, and I have 6° right now on the '86, but will probably bump it to 7/8, when I'm doing the photo session for the manual.

The old ones work fine; the new ones will just be more convenient. I'm counting on a few trade-ins for parts for the 16V conversions. If not, then I'll have to have the parts cut. I'm thinking like $30 off the price of a new one, but again, it will depend on the quote.

Think of your old purchase as a rental fee.
