Minor issues-wtf!

(2) W.P replacements in less than 2 years a minor issue!
Oh yea, I did replace the first one myself along with the T.B.

And for your info.
I removed, rebuilt the auto tranny in the car as well.
I'm talking pistons to valve body.
These are not minor issues.
oh yea , don't forget the Torque Tube!

One good thing I can say about the car though, this morning it started in -28 degree celcius no problem- Sure my new starter that was put in 3 weeks ago had every thing to do with it!!

I could of used that candle of yours from your shrine thing on the drive home from work yesturday.

Hey Brotha..I have seen you on the Rennlist for quite some time and I know you spend a lot of time sharing your life here. I have read just enough to give me a glimpse into your world. It may be best to remove the things in your life that complicate it. The 928 being one of them. I would expect that there are more important things for you to focus on.

Please take the friendly advice given. When you find yourself in a place later on in your life where you can relax and enjoy this kind of vehicle, then look to those times, but for now, you really should tend to the positive things to help you move forward. A simpler more affordable/reliable vehicle is what you need most in these times.

All the best to you!

I am not my car, my car is not me.

Rinse and repeat.

Hang in there Mike. One foot in front of the other will get you where you need to go.

Mike
It does seem its time for you and the 928 to part ways.....these are complicated OLD cars.....asking a 20 year old car to be a reliable daily driver is asking alot (especially in extreme weather)....I also think something newer, with a warranty or at least much cheaper to maintain is a good idea...Honda's come to mind.....I've also had good luck with my 02 Saturn...& they depreciate really bad....so you can pick one up cheap!

In a couple years when things settle down a bit....there will always be a nice 928 for sale....

I love the cars looks.
The power is good.
Unfortunately this ones a garage owners wet dream.

I've owned this car for 10 years and have sunk at least >$8000 grand last year on it.
The year before that.........
The year before that..........
The year before that...........
On average every 3 months~it breaks. I'm not even hard on the damn thing.

It's hard to be proud of a something when it requires perpetual assistance just to accomplish the fundamentals.
This car is a freshly designed german engineered car but at times I think it must have been Octoberfest when the engineering designs were finalized.

Rebuilt the tranny, done the TT, breaks every 3 months, spent $8K last year and similar previously. No, these are certainly not minor. I definitely would not be a happy camper either if I had the same experience. At some point, I would expect you should have everything up to snuff and you could enjoy the car. It's a tough call, isn't it Mike? Would you be cutting your losses or passing along an almost rebuilt car to someone else who only needs to spend $200 to get the radiator sidetank replaced?

Nothing wrong with the 928 but it is EXTREMELY costly to repair and it DOES have issues mainly in aged items. What happens when these items go out it is usually devestating to the car.

Lets not forget that these cars went down in value faster then Drew Barrymore at a grundge rock concert.

I have had two and dont regret OWNING them and felt the same joy selling them.

Dude sell it quickly and quietly and let one of these wealthy fellas buy it and enjoy it as much as they can..........You have been through enough.........As did I!

Read my posts after 2 months of owning one, a crappy WP pulls its freaking pully and only by the grace of god and quick reflexes was I able to save the engine....if not it would have been nothing but a parts car. EF that man who needs it.

I damn sure have bettter things to worry about rather then the freaking time bomb that is sexy as hell.

Hell after I sold mine the next guy has a PS pump pulley that grenades! If it had happened to me I would have torched the efe'r for insurance money.

Lets also face another item here. Porsche dropped the sucker for a reason and you certainly can find a car for the same price that performs better...........

Damn for all the 928 gear heads YES YES YES the 928 is the best handling car ever made and the most balanced yadda yadda yadda......who cares........

Do this, look at the other forums here and judge for yourself on what models you see haveing more problems then others...........This forums is constantly about repairing and issues and supercharging...........fixing and more power thats should answer in newbies question about the 928..........

After all said and done I will be buying another one soon driving it little and viewing often...then when i want to lay it out I'll drop my butt in my 911 and drive nearly worry free.............

Hey, we have all had our bad luck with certain cars! I would be upset if it was with my 928, but fortunately it was with a previous thunderbird and one jetski. Yes, it sucked and I felt beaten and whipped by it, but I sold them and was releived, found something different and my luck changed.

At the price you have been paying for maintenance, you could get a BMW 6 series coupe or a newer 996 awd. That is what I would do if I was going to make a coupe my daily driver.

Loaded, you don't see the whole picture, which is why you were better off selling. Some of your statements are totally inaccurate, and are those of someone who had a bitter experience. Any sophisticated car that is 20 years old or whatever-16 in my case is going to need a little TLC. The problem is, there aren't many other cars from other manufacturers that are still around to compare it to.
You had a ****ty car, that maybe the same case here. But, we don't all have "Time Bombs", to use your statement. Leave us to our "misery".

And hey, its just a car. If its causing you that much grief, come to terms with it and either cut your loses and get ride of it and forget about it, or come to terms with it and keep and try to enjoy it for what it is, with all of its little problems.

Good luck man. -Ed

Someone in the area here that's a former 928 owner bought a BMW M5. I recently heard that he sold it. Why? The repairs and maintence type stuff seemed to never end, and he finally called it quits. In the less than two years that he owned it, he had spent $20k on those repairs and maintenence, and this is someone who does the vast majority or all of the work on his cars himself.
