I have owned 944 and 911 for years, I grew up with 911. A 911 engine needs a rebuild (read it again) REBUILD at 100,000 miles. I will happily agree that a normally-aspirated 944 is a very reliable car. However it has nowhere near the power that other Porsches have and it is prone to many similar failures the 928 is. I had water and coolant mix in my 944 just like it happens in the 928. Just that it was an oil cooler not the radiator. Clutch replacement on a 928 is an afternoon jobbie, it drops right out. On a 944 it is a horrible, intense job that requires disassembly of much of the car. They both have failures. Only a 944 is much weaker.

A 911 (exactly like yours) has cardboard interior panels and spartan interior that will make you hate winters. Yes the heat exchanger heat is the best in the world, but once oil drips onto them, you breathe oil in the cabin anytime the car is running. And try replacing spark plugs on a 911, it is not for the feint of heart, because your number 3 is waaay back in there and sits 9 inches down in the engine, with no guide to guide the socket. Plus, look under your hood. Your valves need readjusting, ours don't. I know. I owned and loved a 911SC and I will again. My dad owned many 911's.

A 928 is a very complicated car. It is. And many things can go wrong with it. However, all you have to do is eliminate the weak points, just like you do with all other cars. And btw, 944/951/944S2 ... they all suffer rod bearing failure just as we do.

Mike Esik is a man who has had life hit the living **** outta him. I feel for him and hell, if he needs to vent a little and kick a dent in the side of his car ... and if that helps him a little ... I say he's OK in my book.

The Kids really love that car.
This is a main reason why I've kept tit through thick and thin.
I told the Kids not too long ago that I'm going to sell it, and my Daughter cried right there in the car.

It's something of the past that hasn't changed in their lives and they have comfort in it's familiarity.

The new news is , I've been looking for a car.

I hopefully finalized a purchased of a PT cruiser GT convertible turbo.
2005 fully loaded mint with 5 spoke wheels and an extended warrenty to boot.
The car has less than 8000kilometers on it.
The Kids and I went to purchase one a few weeks ago we took it out for a trial ride.-0.5 days and had a ball. Unfortunately something unexpected came up and I lost the car.

This time things are in order and i believe this car will replace the fun we had in the 928 and I can be without worries from the next strange sound that comes up.
I still have the 928.
I will sell in a couple of months and fix the rad and say goodbye.
Trust me in one way it won't be easy.

It started off as a love affair and ended up as an unreliable untrustworthy.

Just like my soon to be x.

Twice around is too much
If I do it over I'll buy a nice GTS and make it a special occasion vehicle.
I dont hate your car just mine..........whenever she breaks

Hehe...

Mike, I played a large part in saving Dad's S4 as she was burning along side gas pumps in BFE eastern Colorado. I have since helped and followed his restoration of the engine and car due to the cat fire, so I have a little ground to stand on.

I also realize you have had a more than you're fair share of life's crap.

Keep talking smack and you might find a 951 owner to spank that car back into shape! I'm just sayn'...

UGH lambasted for an opinion and told I havent a efing clue......no surprise at the response. The issue is his car just like mine continued to have egregious repair issues and reliability issues.

Really not a efing clue? I see two people on this post that share the same clue.

But again the car is hot, and because of PO's and lack of maint. Many 928 find themselves in scrap piles, burned out for insurance, parts cars, etc. It takes a special owner to have one the owner has to be totally intune wth a web site like this with owners like Heinrick and ROG100. people who have dedicated a life and lifestyle to this wonderful piece of history. Without you guys I would have never made it as far as I did with mine....................

Unfortunately it would appear if you dont share the same feelings. or "get it" or "KNOW" WTF your talking about. PIOUS owners here take it out by name calling and dissing your opinion and experiences....Shame shame. Life to short to get your ball sack in a squeeze about somebody else who doesnt have the funds patience or mental/mechanical agility others do.

As for turning to a 911 they are certainly more simple to maintain and much less complicated.

Every 928 should come with a warning label.

Mike has the same issues many of us do, I feel for him I just hope he doesnt give up on the brand. Just that one particular car.

BTW I have a farking clue because my opinion are based on my experiences just as mikes are.

SELL IT AND MOVE ON

When your ready to buy another one you know what to look for. Just like me..........and as of this writing I am currently looking for another one.

Nope, I have an opinion.

What the big deal guys between you and Ed you guys sure seem upset that I have an opinion......I just dont get it how you guys can be so upset or threatened by somebody with an opinion........

I never said expert you did.

This seems to be an issue. If i dont believe the same way you suddenly you do everything possible to belittle the opposing view and and stretch out your soap box and start screaming...........

BTW this isnt about me it about Mike I simply reflected on my own issue to let the guy know he is not alone in his feelings and opinion........

Carry on fellas. your certainly welcome to tear it up on the web......

The ongoing issue is not your opinion. it is that after 8 whole month of unhappy ownership and now a couple of months' 911 ownership you are giving advice that affects people's lives. You make statements about the 928 and 911 and you don't understand either one.

heinrich,

Good point, Loaded first said it was his dream car, then sold it in 8 months; You dont sell your dream car (personal rule), its like giving up on your dreams, isn't that a personal betrayal? If you're a car ***** then no car is your dream car, they are all just tools to feel good about yourself. Mine is my dream car since age 15, now I am 34 and owned it for 5 years and despite getting other cars, it sits in a 10 car garage under my care.

I think it is a betrayal of ones self to sell off your childhood dream car, but since my world isn't as hopeless as others, I wont give up on keeping mine. It doesn't matter if there is something faster or better now, its all about being caught in the moment of identifying with things of strength as a child and remembering where your dreams came from.

Despite its shaded and long history, my car continues to purr right along with few problems, or at least non which havent gotten me pssst enough to ebay her!
