It's not catching on the mechanism, and something broke, but I don't know what since I cannot find a photo of what it should be. Can someone take a photo of their latching mechanism so I can see what broke?

I've read about shims, but is that really a solution for me? From what I can tell from mine (see my photo), it looks like something broke on the forward (top) side of the (female) latching mechanism. If I need a shim there, exactly what are the dimensions and placement? OR, is this just a matter of adjusting the lower latching mechanism placement?--and if so, what broke and what functionality did it serve?

Thanks for the help!
Well, the first part of my note was intended to deal with the no latching problem. I was suggesting that the upper tongue was not engaging the lower receiver lip and that it might just be an adjustment of the lower and/or upper parts. Shimming applies to aligning the plunger so that release (unlatching) works better.

Could someone please help me with my problem...

I have a brand new lower latch including new nylon insert etc (thanks Roger)

I also have a brand new hatch motor that attaches to it....

Interior lights all work perfectly as well.

The fuse that runs the "parking circuit" (fuse 26) is working perfectly....

BUT.....although my motor RELEASES every time without fail ....it only rarely PARKS in the correct position, so when I go to close my hatch, it just bangs on the tongue and I have to press my remote several times to get the tongue to back off.....(I wired it to work from my alarm remote rather than the pull switches)

Any ideas why the damn thing will NOT park itself ???

All the best Brett
When you pull the release ****, does the motor only run as long as you hold the **** up? I know you say the fuse that runs the parking circuit is OK, but if the motor does not continue to run for a second or two after you release the button, the parking circuit is not working. Maybe a broken wire.

Bill a check to see that the nose of the motor has not been pulled forward when unclipping the activation arm...this was my case. need to feed a flat blade screwdriver and separate rather than pull apart.
I pushed the nose back on with the little recirculating arm probably only about 2 mm and now it cycles to the same position( 2 o'clock) every time with out holding switch up.

Misadjustment of the position of the motor?

No I pulled it apart instead of using a blade screwdriver to split the ball off the arm...I was playing with the system to try n stop rattle...I say playing as i was on it for at least 2 hours and achieved nothing.
I am of the opinion that if the bush is missing you are up sh%t creek with out a paddle.
I would like the dimensions as a guide to find a "something" to implement it to the job at hand.

Rog, thanks for the fix on the oem lower assembly. When I got the part out of the box mine was in the "stuck down" position... further investigation showed marks of previous installation. (hmmmmm).
So with your guidence, I kissed the threads with the 5/16" bit and... Works like a fine piece of German machinery once again.

This thread is kinds of old, but since it has come back to life I will use it to let you know that although I am not the other sponsor that Roger mentioned a couple of years ago who was going to develop a replacement Rear Hatch Latch Liner for the 928, I have recently been doing just that. I started a little before Xmas on the development and tooling for this liner and have announced at least twice before that I was going to be ready to put some in the field for evaluation.

Both times I found something wrong with the liner and had to make some major changes. Now I am on the fourth iteration of the liner and have what I think is the last obstacle overcome, which has been getting the locking tabs that must be glued on the sides to fit into the Receiver and allow the liner to snap in place properly.

Testing the liner in progress is somewhat difficult since once all three tabe are glued on the darn thing is almost impossible to get back out of the receiver; so it isn't like I can put the liner in place and then take it out again to evaluate it. And, with it in place that takes up the testing space I need for a new test.

For clarification, what I have done is develop a replacement for the original liner and not a duplicate of the original. Rather than making a mold and casting some of them as the original, I have made some tooling that is used to form a new liner body out of ABS plastic sheet which is then trimmed to shape and then the three locking tabs are glued on the back and both side. It is not very pretty to behold by itself, because of the need to glue up the tabs on the outside, but once it is installed it is quite attractive and very subtle in appearance. It is Black so it does not stand out at all like the original. I think it is going to function in every respect as well as the original, and I think it will last forever.

What I have found is that there are three versions of this Hatch Latch Receiver. There is the earliest version that I think was used in only the 78 and 79 models, but I am not sure about 80 since I have not seen one of them. The next version goes up to about 84 when the remote release function came into production. The third is from then on. The only real difference in the liners I am making is to accomodate the earliest version since the later two versions essentially use the same liner. That accomodation is simply made up in the way the body is trimmed. I am going to provide these liners in three different kits with extensive instructions about how to install it.

When I get a few of these liners glued up with what I now think is the right size material for the tabs I'll take some pictures and try to post them in this thread this weekend. Then I am going to send a few to some of you who have expressed an interest about this in one of the other lists, and perhaps, here and see how close you might think these are to meeting the need.

Jerry, I've got a lot of old receivers that I've replaced with new ones. I'd be willing to test one out on my own car (already have a new one in there) and let you know how it goes.

What I meant was that I would only need one address for mailing. There is none that I can find in either of your web sites. I'lll send you guys one of each of the three seperate kits. Maybe the 78 that ANG is driving can use one.
