Maybe so but I prefer the paint on my car to the thin paint that chips easily on the newer cars of today.

Don't get me wrong, I also prefer the older paints for several reasons. I really like the fact that no two cars will look completely the same and I also think it gives each car a "personality".

Not only are newer paints thin, they don't seem to draw you in like the older paints did. I've seen newer lexus/cadillac/mb/bmw paints which are pearl or candy colors and with exception to two or three Lexus colors they are all very boring. Porsche still does a nice job with some of their metallics but they also charge an arm and a leg.

They just don't build them like they used to.

Great thread! It's terrific that so many 928s were painted in these amazing colors. My car's paint is called "Rhodamine" Red on the jamb sticker, but is more commonly referred to as "Raspeberry" in english-language publications (I haven't the faintest idea what Rhodamine is, thought it might have been a gemstone or something).

The color has grown on me ... when I first got the car my wife liked to joke that I'd been selling Mary Kay, but like many on the thread, I like having something different. I know of two 968s that were painted this color; one's a convertible driven by Sharon Stone in a 1994 movie, and the other is the coupe below that I saw on the web ...

Spoke with previous owner last week and found out that my L999 actually is Arena Red which had been painted as some kind of prototype a year before it was available stock. This was also somehow to explain why it was fitted with US-bumper even though OO was from Stuttgart and why it didn't found its way out on the streets until 1991. The interior is Linen which I believe also wasn't avalable stock in 1990 and later cars (and it's full leather dash etc.).

Beautiful car. I've had two 90 models with Linen interior so I'm guessing it was a standard offering in 1990 although both of mine were two tone so full linen interior may have been a special order option.

I love Arena Red. I will own a 993 C2S in that color one day.

Nice looking shark!

Another vote for Felsengrun metallic. I've only seen maybe 4 or 5 others here. I love this color. In early-morning or late-afternoon light, it looks for all the world like a brilliant 'meteor grey'. In the full, strong sunlight of noontime, it borders on a pewter/gunmetal type of color.

L in front of paint color code is not Lackierung. It means paint manufacturer Lesonal.

Default Red rum

Would be quite a thing to see an Arena, Velvet and Zyclamrot parked together. Think I'm still hooked on the Z. Wonder what production numbers might have been.

The "Red's" at the 09 3rd Coast event. IIRC, Tom's beautiful Raspberry GTS (bottom pic) was at the event on Sat but not on Sun when top pic was taken. Just T
