Default KEMPF TOOL ? If thats the name need instructions

JUST RECIVED MY TIMING BELT ADJ TOOL:
The instructions are washed out and hard to read, anyone know how to use one of these or has a good picture of it in place. I want to test my old belt before it comes off to know what to look for!

I can probably scan my instructions to PDF and e-mail them to you tomorrow if you can wait that long. Let me know.

When I got it it looked intimidating, but it's really simple to use and you don't need a baseline. Your old belt may be too loose or just right, but testing on it won't give you much advantage.

For sure, follow the directions, but basically, you slot the gauge between teeth on the TB halfway between where it hits the pass-side cam and the tensioner roller. Make sure it is seated as deep as it can go onto the belt. Have it so the spring is facing the passenger side of the car and then twist up. The spring-loaded gauge will move into the notched window on the tool (if the belt is correctly tensioned). If the edge of the gauge doesn't make it to the window, the belt is too loose. If it goes past the window, your belt is too tight.

With the new belt, you need to test many times (which will make you an expert at it). Test when the engine is at TDC, crank a few rotations, test again and so on. Adjust the tensioner and crank some more to allow the tension to be distributed across the belt length.

If nobody else is able to get you the instructions, let me know and I will scan mine.

Simple to use, good tool to have. What year is your 928? The timing belt's on the early cars are much easier to check than the S-4's.

If you have the WSM, the instructions are the same as for special tool 9131 and can be found on page 15-17.
