Maybe you could use splinters from the fence as your excuse.

Matt is in, if we can get his car running. He just installed some freshly cleaned fuel injectors and the car won't start. We'll give it to usual no-start diagnostic approach, but we will look at the injector harness first if a noid light shows they are not firing. A FI harness short is high on the list due to harness manipulation.

I found that the cheapie mechanic's stethescope that I picked up for $15 does one better than a noid light... you can actually hear the pintle moving in the injector. Tried it on the revlimiter's Saturn while tracing a light knocking noise. Ironically, it was almost useless for localizing the actual problem... plugs loose in the head.

Dave - I was recently enjoying your write up on the MOD to enable a lane clearing signal using the high beam stalk. I was especially impressed when I noticed in the pictures that when the high beams and fog lights flash, the front tires also wiggle. How you do dat man?

Good point, Dave. If it were just one injector, the noid would help isolate harness versus injector failure, but being as I suspect all the injectors are failing due to a harness short, the stethoscope would work just as well.
Also, we have another two people joining us on Saturday:
- Jim Heisy is a maybe
- Dave Benson is for sure.
Should be a good crowd for the funride.

It's a special talent, Charley. Of course when flashing the lights at a left-lane hog, you want to also be swerving all over the road to get their attention, so I built that feature into the system. I'd tell you how it's done, but then I'd have to kill ya.
Seriously, I took the first pic with just the headlights on. The next pic was with the headlights on and the lever pulled back. I tied the lever back to a spoke on the steering wheel, but had to turn the wheel a bit to do so.... not thinking about whether it would make a visible difference in the final pic. I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice that.

OK, Matt is ready to go.
When I got there tonight to help Matt with his no-start after he had his injectors cleaned, the engine started even though we had an injector disconnected for testing of the lead. Matt was apologizing for the false alarm, but it wasn't false afterall. We reinstalled the fuel rail covers. I didn't like the way the driver side fit and the harness was catching on it during installation. Sure enough, the car did not fire up after that. We took a closer look at the injectors and the one that was hanging up the cover had a complete twist in the boot. We cut open the boot to see bare copper wire. Both lead's insulation had cracked off and there was a definite short. Fixed that and the car started and ran just fine. Matt needs to go through and probably replace all the injector connectors with ones that have fresh leads and boots, but he should be good for the funride. It sure is nice when you find what you were expecting!
See you all Saturday morning!
