My dad would always say: "By the time you are old enough to drove, there will be no more cars"
He believed that traffic would increase so much over the course of my youth that there would be other, more efficient means or transportation by the time I would be 18. Well, that was a long time ago...

I thought there were other more efficient means of transportation. At least for some specific uses like in cities. We simply live in a medieval society compared to other countries it seems sometimes. I loved the trains in Japan, and Europa, and Paris is so facilitating. Easy to get around the city day or night.
The Bay Area doesn't even have a BART line to the airport yet. How outrageous is that? Uncool to say the least. If you really want to laugh, go to Hawaii. They have fussed over an approved mass transit system in Honolulu for 30 years. Ridiculous. Stone age. Hey, even L.A. has some fixed rail systems now. Will wonders ever cease??

See http://www.bart.gov/stations/map/systemmap.asp
San Francisco does have a bus system, some trams, and the old cable cars, along with BART. In that sense it's probably more advanced than many other places. I certainly would not want to depend on the bus here in the suburbs - where it runs about once an hour. You miss one, you lost an hour.
It was the same in the little village in Germany where I grew up. The closer you got to the city, the more frequently the buses or trams ran. I don't want to imagine Stuttgart today without their U-Bahn system - the city is congested as it is, so any more cars would make the traffic collapse.
Anyway, have fun on the 28th! I'll be in pain every time I see this thread...

I stand corrected. I suppose a passenger could transfer to that line from all the others. But I have to take some other means from the Peninsula, and i take private shuttle. Door to door. Far out. No parking problems at the airport. Why do we in/on the Peninsula not get to take BART. BART is smart.
And light and fast and simple and quiet. I guess that's what happens when you live on the "right" side of the Bay.

Checking in on this event...
So far, I believe thse are the attendees:
- Charley B
- Dave A
- Angelo
- Brian
- Ron H
- Andre
- Jimson Moo (via email)
- Paul from Sonoma (via email)
Did I miss anyone? I know Dave and Brian are iffy. How does it look?
Ken Adolf is putting in some extra effort to host a brunch and show us his shop and it would be nice to have a good attendance level for that.
If anyone is rideless (hey, Dennis K?) you can ride with me.
Also, I am going to have to hustle back early. Something came up at home and I will need to be home by 2:15. So, the ride will be fast and the lunch short for me.
