My stomach is turning, I feel sick. (selling my upgraded S4)
#33
So the brother in law calls me just now and says hey " The book value on that car is only $11 or $12,000 - what are your screwing me for?"
Im like THE 928 AND BOOK VALUE DOES NOT REALLY EXIST. The car is what it is. Try and find an S4 for $11 or $12k.
I said the car has the Aeor mirrors, painted rear spoiler, 18 inch rims/tires, stainless exhaust system and headers, GTS brake upgrade and fully sorted out. New rack n pin. , new water pump , time belt, ect... etc... etc..
So, I said I would just rather keep it since the car is fully sorted out and runs like a top. He then said I will look into it and get back to you.
Good luck finding an 88 with 5 speed and thousands upon thousands in repairs and upgrades.
What was I thinking- cannot sell it. Now I will pull her out of the garage on Tuesday and start
driving her like I should.
Shame on Me. Told my brother in law to go have another drink.

You know...I would keep it. Is it really worth trying to convince him otherwise. And if he's not happy with it, to have that on your conscience. Especially family. Eeeek!
I don't think you were looking to sell it in the first place right?

If his post do show up they will look something like this:
Looking to buy a $22,000 928 for $12,000. Must be negotiable. Do not take this in a bad way, I want to steal your car from you and have you limp off into the sunset. Must be willing to accept post dated check for March 2007. If the check does bounce when you deposit it March of 2007 I cannot be held
responsible for the NSF fees. My time is to important. I am too important. Now go get me another drink. Im not drunk yet. At least I do not think I am.

Just a fast update- my brother in law had his credit union call to confirm sale price of car. We have agreed upon $20,500. I know, deal is not done till check is in the hand. Looks like deal may happen after all.
I know this really is not the place to ask about pricing. You all know I paid $18,500 for the car a year aga. I was looking through the history of repairs and receipts back to day one. This car in the last six years has $24,000 in receipts: New Alternatior, New Steering pump, new rack n pinion, new radiator, new shocks, new headers, net cat's, 18 inch rims and tires, all new hoses, wires. Basically anything that could be un bolted and bolted back on new has been done. An Authority chip for $800.00? That sounds high but is what was paid. Aeror mirrors, painted spoiler. Upgraded GTS brake rotors and calipers. Just a ton of stuff.
I thought I paid top buck at $18,500. The car has 89,000 miles and is a five speed. Interior in A+ condition. Red exterior with tan interior. Will try and post some pictures.
I know you do not get much back on upgrades and sometimes it is like throwing money out the window. I have this feeling that it would be very difficult to find a car with this type of service history all sorted out and with all the upgrades anytime soon.
I just need some reassurance if you will that $20,500 is not that bad of a price. You all know what the market is.
On a side note, found a 1980 Ferrari 308GTBi with 16,000 miles . White with lipstick red interior for sale. Owner willing to sell for $25,000. Thoughts on this car?
Sorry for taking up so much time.

0,
It sounds like brother-in-law gave you an easy way out. Tell him you don't want to have him wonder if you screwed him on the price; it's better not to sell to friends or family. On the other hand, maybe you've already moved on. I have owned lots of cars, and I have regrets about a few of them. Good luck.

[Edit] Argh! I missed the later post. Oh, well.
The Ferrari 308GTBi? What? I looked at those when I was shopping for a sports car 6 years ago. Nice body. Rated at 210-15 HP but produce maybe 180-200 when the fuel injection replaced the Webers in 1980. Problems with oil consumption plague them. Probably the slowest of all years of the 308. Later went to 4 valve and power went back up some. Keep shopping or keep the S4.
