New Carpet Suggestions?
I am looking to get some new carpet for my car. I know it's been discussed before, but I've been sifting through old, outdated threads and I figured it is time to start a new one. Does anybody know of any good places to get complete carpet sets from?
I've already checked 928 Specialists, and I'm sure the carpet is excellent quality, however, I'm not sure I want to spend $625 on carpet. The color I am looking for is black.
If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be very interested to hear them.
Thanks,
Casey

Casey - at some point, I too will replace my carpet (there are a lot of things ahead of it on the list though). Even though it might seem as if $625 is a lot or $$, that's not too bad for another 25 years of wear and tear right?
I know my 86.5 has Slivernit - not sure if your '81 has the same. I know there are domestic's available as well but not sure how it will look vs the OEM stuff. Specialists or International will be able to help you out for sure.

I went with domestic pile, worked OK for me and it was so much better than the original worn out item. For authenticity Silvernit is great but the domestic will be a big improvement over what you have.
Car smelled much better after replacing too, nice bonus.

OFI which from memory is Original Fit Interiors.
Updated: OK checked my receipts and back in 2002 the kit with shipping cost $264. Their number is 209 852 9084.

My carpet ended up costing more than $ 1000, so 625 sounds like a sweet deal. I bought mine in germany, and had i cut and sticthed / leather trim here in Denmark

I had my carpet replaced with the OEM Slivernit. It was something like $600 a few years ago. New carpet makes a huge improvement to the look and smell of the interior. If you go with something other than OEM, my advice would be to go with a high quality carpet - you don't want to have to replace it again any time soon. And like in another reply, $600 isn't that much over 20 years. Good luck.

Love the way the carpet brightens up the interior of the car while being offset by the black mats... Was this the way it was from Factory or did you decide to do it this way because of the look?

The original seats and carpet were white - linen. When I got the car, the carpet was, let's just say, off-white. I wanted a sportier looking interior and black seats but almost went with a grey carpet until I saw the color swatch for this color which I think is "caramel". I'm happy with it.

I have a set from Original Fit Interiors that I'm not going to put in. It's black, domestic. Once I cleaned up my interior, I realized that the carpet was pretty good and not worth the trouble to put in the new stuff.
I'm using the deck pad right now, but I'd gladly let the rest of the lot go for a reasonable price (below what I paid for it, even).

Have you considered a full set of the "new" cocomats?
The advantage is that they never look dirty, wear like iron, bring back your 356 days (maybe) and are relatively inexpensive, though not cheap.
