They look great, but I'm not sure how a Gulf race car or a fuel-injected flat six has anything to do with a 928....

Tax reasons! As a truck the taxes are like 1/10th the VERY HIGH rate you would pay on a 928...

No I didnt know that, but its a stupid reason. I wouldnt do that to a S4 let alone a GTS. I dont see any 911 pickups made.

It's more than 10+ years since this took place. A local Porsche specialist exploited a loophole in legislation and managed to convert around 8 cars IIRC, before government put a stop to it - can't have people driving around in cheap Porsches...

To give you an idea about what we're up against, and the motivation behind such butchery: 2 years ago when I imported my car from Germany, I had to pay $29,000 in tax - on top of the $27,000 purchase price in Germany. At the time these conversions were made, I believe it roughly cut the total price in half. With a not-that-old 928, that was substantial money saved.

With regards to the missing 911 pickup trucks; I think this would be difficult to do with a rear engined car, and you couldn't possibly retain the overall dimensions and general shape, like with the 928.
