Not sure about all years but on this engine the bearings, which were sourced from 928Intl, had grooves on the mains that went all the way around. That'd be on the four that feed the rods. The center bearing has no groove at all.

Not sure about how to drill the cranks. Any info would be appreciated by me as well. It's Taylor Engine in LA that has done the work for most (all?) that have been modified.

CHevy uses grooved brg only on the upper mains. All rod brgs are smooth, no groove.
Does anyone know why only the 2-6 journal has this problem?

these are out of scots second engine failure(before we even got it started) could have been the liberal use of ether,or the fact that we started it forever with the coil wires mixed up. (eventually it just galled the cylinders and stopped)

Now that scots new engine is running great (knock knock), what do you think we need to do to those cylinders to build up another engine. is this just a 1 oversize bore job, or something more substantial? i guess, if i could find 5 liter pistons, i could just bore the entire thing to 5 liter and build up a spare short block for scotty!

anyone got a set of 5 liter pistons laying around? hmm, how about 968 pistons? 103mm right? are rod holes in the same position as an S4 piston?
getting ready for a winter project.

Looks like from the pics the pistons are already 1st oversized euro 82 pistons. anyone got a couple 2nd oversized pistons laying around? now all i need to know if those grooves are more than .25mm deep. hmmmm looks deeper dont they? (1st to 2nd oversize is .5mm difference on the bore)

Mark, the walls aren't nearly thick enough on a 4.5 or 4.7 block for over 100mm pistons.

Here are the matching pics...

Those are the pics.

What's interesting is that my crank looks to have the rod holes drilled further out so the "X" is below the holes. In that way there's no "against" flow.

Glen, sorry to hear that... I hadn't seen this thread before today. Now I know why Borys was urging me to do rod bearings along with my pan gasket!
