P.S. The pictures Chuck Z supplied from the Registry were taken shortly after I sold the car to that owner from Indiana. ALOT'S changed since then, believe me!
Surely, you are not suggesting that I have lied in the e-bay description, are you?? Please, take a deep breath and read it carefully. Feel free to drop me a PM or call, I will be happy to fill you in on the details.

Robert,
I did, and will have to agree with what you said. You've apparently put quite a bit of work into making it as good as it's gonna get. I commend you for that, seeing as how it must have been a rather painstaking process. We don't need to go into details, but you've done a nice job.
Good luck with the sale.
danglerb,

When Todd last reported on the car it was in the hands of some pretty surly individuals and was not in near the condition it appears to be now.

I gather you don't want to share the story in public, but it must be a good one.

Todd,
No problem, it was not easy (or cheap) to get it to where it is now, but the way I look at it, it is still work in progress. I had to buy this GTS in order to get the low mileage 85S 5sp with the full leather - they came as a package.

Bob is a good guy and I have no doubt his description is accurate. I posted about the problem with this car on page 3 of this thread (6-21-06).
"FYI guys,
If this is the GTS in Canada the seller was supposed to "export" the car with U.S customs when he brought the car into Canada. He should have taken the title & bill of sale into Customs and then they clear the title to make sure it is not stolen or has any leans on it.
The Seller DID NOT DO THIS. When someone try's to import the car back into the U.S it will show as still being registered in the USA. This will raise Red flags with Customs and they will impound the car.
Check Out,
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforu...eferrerid=16313"
The Very Next post is Low Miler response,
"The seller still has it titled with an Indiana title. He is willing to bring the car down to Seattle to close the deal. The car is still a U.S. car and the transaction will take place on U.S. soil. No problem."
I told y.... Never mind
The real problem is the 72 hour title search is a U.S rule NOT a Canadian one. So you can import a car into Canada without the search but you *MIGHT* have a big problem when/if the car goes back into the U.S. You will also need a letter from Porsche saying it meets U.S Standards and the Bill of Sale.
The $22,000 Question: Was this car properly exported from the U.S?

If the car still has a US title (Indiana in this case)..then if the car is in the US...no one will care...just transfer the title to the new state..pay the taxes..end of story. If the car was registered in Canada, then yes, it will have to be "re-imported" back to the states. This will have to be done by a registered importer who will at a minimum verify the presence of the proper US emissions, and DOT stuff..speedo, side markers etc... Should be an easy import if all the pieces are there..
I was lucky..found a Canadian 89GT...that was registered by it's owner in California...(without being imported from Canada)..but it did have a California title. All I did was transfer the Cali title to a Washington title..pay taxes..and good to go....even with the KM speedo intact..
Cya..

I am afraid that there is no Indiana title.
Whenever a car is registered in a new jurisdiction, a chain of title must be
established. Once the local DMV is satisfied, that all is well, the existing
title gets returned to the issuing state. I am sure, something mistakes are
made or careless civil servants screw up, but this is the normal proses. As I
understand it, there has been an agreement in place between US and Canada for many, many years. The 72 hour Homeland Security waiting period for US exports is a relatively recent thing.
In addition, a Customs broker is not required to re-import an US car (or import
Canadian specification car) into US. Brokers usually charge US$350 to prepare
the paperwork and collect the 2.5% duty. Any person can submit Form HS7 and check box 2A. :
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...hs799short.pdf
The only expense then is the 2.5% duty payable at the border.
I hope this explains the situation.
