I think it was probably hot. My total expenses for this scam were $500.00 for deposit, $563.00 for tires, $314.00 for flight out, $129.00 for room and $450.00 for my flight back home.
Ok, so you saw this guy face to face and let him get away with this scam??.
Nobody to blame but yourself there...IMHO. Depost wasnt refundable?
Call the police while you were there when you saw it was a scam.."hot car"
DUH!!
With all the dealings and experience you seem to have moving 928s im suprised this happend.
best thing is to just turn the page and move on to the next project.
Thanks Paul. Yeah, I can't dwell on it.
If you let this go Todd your a pushover.IMHO

Geeeze! So sorry to hear of all this Todd. Guess I'm glad that red is not one of my wife's preferred colors for a GTS! Kinda weird thinking I actually spoke to him on the phone about the car. Like I said in an earlier post, something seemed a bit different or odd about how he acted. Sort of aloof or like he didn't care whether I wanted the car or not. If I didn't speak there was dead silence & when I asked a question, he gave brief answers & no more than he had to. All he said was he was moving in Sept. & wanted to sell the car by then.
Hope you can somehow get some of your money back & that this guy gets what he deserves! I suppose if you end up still losing the $2k, over time it can be cost effective if it changes how you go into future purchases. We all want to be trusting of people. Really sucks when its the criminals, cause they are out there. We just don't think it will be us that is their next target. I agree with Tony though in at least attempting to persue something with the law. Even if he's a Canadian. Maybe you might help curb his abilities to continue such activities.

Todd,
Sorry to hear your misfortune with this car. I would have done the same thing you have when the title issues arose. I’m Canadian, so let me give you a little example how title and ownership works up here, or at least here in Ontario (rest of Canada is pretty much the same too). It’s rather simple. There is a certificate of ownership that always stays with the car. It gets transferred every time the car is bought and sold. Even if it was bought by/from a dealer it will be transferred to the dealer’s name. We don’t have a title here only the above mentioned certificate that is commonly referred to as “the ownership”. The ownership should be always on the seller’s name. the seller would sign the back of the ownership and then the buyer (during registration) would have the ownership transferred to their name. Its’ really a simple and effective way of keeping track who owns the car. If a vehicle has a lean on it the ownership would never reflect this, but this is where the following thing comes into play. In Ontario the seller must provide something called a “used vehicle information package” that the MTO (Ministry of Transportation of Ontario) require the seller to purchase, this states the current registrant of the vehicle, an estimated wholesale and resale value, all the previous registered owners (this would include all the dealers too that the car went through over the years), a lean search (any existing leans and the name of the lean holder).
When you said that the tile and everything related to this car vas suspicious, you were probably right in more ways that one. Since this car is a ’93 that makes it less than 15 years old. If a vehicle is brought into Canada and is 15 years old. It must have a federal inspection no later than 45 days after entering the country. When the car was brought into to Canada, the buyer had to file the proper paperwork for importing it at the border and a duty had to be also paid at that time. If it’s older than 15 years, then there is no time limit but in both cases the vehicle needs to be federalized, safety inspected, emission tested (where applicable) and taxes paid before registration. I think this GTS was never imported into Canada but probably just driven in and never left.
