155mph at the top of 4th gear, 3 times a lap, at road America. (probably only 150 most of the time)
would love to just let it go on hyway 5, but the though of me in the car doing it and blowing a tire, with all the tires and tools , makes me think of a rock tumbler! maybe we can hit 160 at california speedway, dont know!

Yep, no bogging down in any gear or at any speed

The twin-screw folks should have a different tale to tell. Those guys really haul. On the Spokane raceway, a guy from Alaska in a red wine colored 928 (auto) went around me like I was crawling. Relatively speaking, I guess I was.

I hit 163 on my GPS and was still climbing in Nevada going to an ORR, not actually in it. They wouldn't let me drive that fast in the race without a rollbar so I had to do it elsewhere...

Not to hijack the thread, but this discussion brings up the question:
Here in Texas, we have what is called "the Texas mile", an event every 3 months or so where they close a road and anyone can give it a shot.
On a rolling start, you have a mile to go as fast as you can. Straight line. At the end of the mile, a cop clocks you.
How fast could I expect my stock S4 to do and how much of a difference would one of DR's twinscrew kits make?

At 6000 feet altitude my 89 S4, when in stock form, ran out of steam at a trap measured 165, which is exactly what is claimed for sea level. Since the SC was installed I have been over 170.

With DR's TS I would think as fast as you like.
Anyone ever done a 1 mile run?
The 1st time I ever ran my GT with the TS through the gears I lifted in the 135 to 140 range because the acceleration at that high speed freaked me out. Might try a 1 miler on the way to the OCIC

Pattycakes has reached 147 or so. Not bad for a 82' 3spd.
There was a little more pedal left and had a bout 400/500 rpm left before redline.
To be honest; I had hit close to redline at about 143mph -pedal to the metal- using kickdown from dead stop. Then I let off -had the feeling someone was 'on me', slowed to about 120mph while scoping 360, then got back into it gradually and hit 147 -indicated-.
Pattycakes the Wunder-Weissach was handling like she was on rails.
Gnarly,
30 second mile at 180mph...***?
60mph = 60 second miles'
120mph = 30 second miles'
180 mph = 15 second miles, 7 1/2 half second miles', 3 3/4 second 1/4 miles', 1 7/8 second 1/8 mile
Purty darned quick no matter how ya cut it. Unfortunately, in this part of Texas 30 minutes at 180mph and I would still be in the middle of no where with a close to empty gas tank- WOT-.
Paul,
I don't know where this data comes from
Pattycakes regularly waddles down the mile in excess of 120 with a 50/55 mph roll on. Regularly = weekly.
I'm just guessing here, but a S4 rolling at near redline any gear at start should be at or above 150mph.
Of course, I've heard that them thar brown cars ain't as fast as the other sHARKs.

If anybody even SUGGESTED allowing that to happen here in Minnesota all the school-marmish uptight wrinkle-puss politicos would suck those dill pickles up their butts even further and get all apoplectic.
