top speed?

Allen,
The gps calculates speed based on distance between two points and the time it took to get there.
The gps is not that accurate on location (maybe with 15-40 feet), so it can ocasionally calculate the
speed incorrectly. On the trip home from the Silver State last weekend, I got a max speed reading
of 300 mph. Would have been nice, but definitely not real.... I guess I could take a photo of it, just
to post on these kind of occasions. But looking at the tracking logs should show it it's close or not.

I saw speeds in excess of 300mph regularly on the data logging part of the GPS used on a sailing yacht about 15 years ago. This was before SA was turned off and just represented the GPS jumping from one side of the error to the other. made the graphs of performance completely useless as they were scaled to suit the 300mph max speed comapred with the flatline of normal 6 or 7mph!

Mr. Hacker-Pschorr,
Could my 175 MPH be related to your 1.2 million posts on Rennlist? Really? 1.2 million?
Seriously though, I bought the engine in Annapolis where it had been sitting for 10 years pulled from a car that no longer existed. Testing indicated a good candidate so my mechanic and I replaced all the usual stuff on an engine that would be both prudent to do and/or easier as long as it was not in the car. (Head Gaskets, TB, WP, Oil pan Gasket, etc.) which also allows a good internal inspection. There are no engine stamping marks that I could see. The spot I was told to view had a blank, flat area. So the engine is unknown. Was told it came from an '84 model. S'all I know about it. The numbers are facing up low and behind the starboard side timing belt cover, correct?
Back to the GPS: Sometimes when I cross over, under, or near an almost parallel road, the GPS puts me on that road for a moment and announces "Recalculating". Perhaps it was in that 'jump over' mode that it erred and had me momentarily driving on a much longer distance route at the upper end speed that I was doing and it calculated that I covered a greater distance in that moment. I have not really pushed it since but I based on the car's 'oomph', I believe it is somewhere closer to a top end max speed of 140 MPH or so.

But, none of this ever really happend on public roads. Just the ORR is real. The rest is just fictitious descriptions for entertainment only. Right? wink wink.
Just like I never got up to 145 on an open stretch of highway in my S4 with plenty of room to go faster if I hadn't started thinking of all of the aging components that could fail on my car.

I would like to issue a warning.
If your start getting addicted to high speed driving please take into account that the hunger for more speed will never end. Ever.

Back in 1988, I drove my "future" mother-in-laws Red 1 year old 928 S4 and was racing a brand new Camaro Iroc on the way to Las Vegas from Los Angeles. At 140 the front end of the Iroc behind me began to lift up off the road. He slowed down ( I am sure he was out of room anyway that car only had 240hp), I kept going to 162 and then I got scared to death (I was only 18 years old) I slowly took my foot off the pedal and seemed like forever for me to get back down to 120. At that point the Iroc caught up and we both slowed down. We both got pulled over CHP at around 100 mph. He was nice and only wrote us both up for 95 mph but said he knew we were well over that. Following the ticket we both stopped off at a Del Taco and the guy in the brand new Iroc with dealer plates just drooled at my 928.
Since then I never has a car over 120, even my 1990 S4 that I finally was able to buy my own a few years back, I just had it to 120 two weeks ago playing with a Vette on the Highway! Althought the car is very stable at high speeds, It's still scary, not to mention at 38 with two kids, I don't want to go to jail.

After many projects since the start of this thread I can confirm my car is very quick and fast.
No idea of time but SOTP tells me she's very quick and very fast speeds are very achievable toward being scary...............270 this week in cool air.

Damn,....over a million posts. I mean damn, that is a LOT of posts right there.
I would have to place 1 post every second for 3 straight years and not even catch HP........wow.
That just can't be real.

140 two weeks ago from Conroe to Huntsville, TX. Took two roundabout passes on the stretch of road where I opened up, to check for any State boys. Third time I punched it - Was going up a slight grade and had room left before I got scared and backed down. Front end shakes a bit, but still solidly on the road. I doubt this car will see that speed again....yeah whatever...

Fear of ticket usually keeps me from going too fast. Did 160 once in my 90GT on a deserted turnpike right up until the Valentnie started beeping. Then I think the suction up my butt slowed me down to 120 faster than hitting the brakes could. Never did get a visual on the Patrol with the radar gun. Guess he figured he couldn't catch 160 and enjoyed the rest of his donut and coffee.
