Default Transaxle oils

Should we also be using shock-proof labeled stuff? Especially in high HP conditions?

Thanks

Thanks Chris. So you specifically have installed the shocks proof redline with no FR (Friction modifier) additives, other then what comes with the bottle?

Check the redline website for more info but it's not appropriate for high-temp use. It's for quarter-mile cars.

After checking around a bit I posted this about using it in my 944:

"Ah. Shoulda done more homework. But at 4 quarts for $24, delivered, figured it would be worth doing.

Checking their web site, I'm thinking this will do well for me over the next 5 months. Won't be tracking it until Aprial and will be driving it during a Minnesota winter. Certainly -10F mornings and could be down to -25F.

It's not for high temps so it's got to be outta there before doing any 1/2 hour DE sessions. The fluid that was drained looked awful, but no chunks or flakes. If I drain this and re-fill with a MT-90, or maybe their 75w90NS, at least it'll be nice and clean for the season."

I use the 75w90NS in both cars. (No posi-traction.) Two quarts of the shock-proof are on the shelf of the garage. $15 delivered in the continental USA.

Question also just filled with Redline 75-90 NS

Glen

I just filled my 90GT wih this stuff, havent driven the car yet though as i am still reinstalling the engine. I was curious if this would need the FM as this is a PSD car, i am not sure if the PSD will require the FM as i am under the assumption that its not a traditional LSD unit and functions differently.

Any comments?

I used the lightweight stuff which is a horrendous blue color, if your tranny leaks you will know where it comes from.

Yes Brendan, no friction modifier added.

Interesting the Redline website has a lot more info than when there was a discussion on this a couple of years back.

They're probably trying to make up for their sales and tech support people being completely useless. After 4 requests over the past year of what if any of their products are compatible with an NSG-370 tranny, all I know is that 75W90 or 75W90NS is not. I still don't have an answer about MTL.

I'm frankly not certain. My suspicion is that it'd grab better with a mix of the 75w90 in there. You're not going to damage anything with just the NS.

Default Ryan- Update?

Ryan-

So have you been happy with the 75W90NS? I'm contemplating Redline 75W90 but am thoroughly confused whether I need 75W90NS or just 75W90 for my 90 GT with PSD (the PSD flush is also on the to do list, but that'll get Castrol GT LMA.....)

The PSD is a limited slip diff, no matter what people say... I used Red Line 75W90NS in my 1990 GT and it worked fine, but after 15,000 miles it was gone - black and smelly... At present I use Mobil 1 75W90 Limited Slip - South West Trains in the UK use this in the gearboxes of their suburban trains - it works a treat! I figured that if it is good enough for a train, must be good enough for a hard driven 928...

Mobil One Synth ... 6 years and no issues. Bought Godzilla with Swepco Blue and an almost impossible 2-3 shift. SIX YEARS and he still shifts like butter.

15K miles? Good lord, I've got $23K in receipts and I can't find any evidence that it's ever been changed in 108K miles. Bet it'll smell lovely in there.....

Thanks for the input. Since M1 is $10 a liter at Pep Boys, and Redline is $8.75 a quart, there's no fiscal incentive one way or another. Does anyone have a favorite Redline vendor in Orange County , or (preferably) online?

NS vs no NS. i use a mix, 75/25% due to my racing exploits. too much NS and it can have more " lock" on the diff and give you some chatter around turns. not enough, and it moves you torward an open diff feel. a mix of some sort is what you need.
either way, redline is good stuff. my trannie has been through the "grinder" over the past 70 race days!!! i am no easy on it, but it is still hanging in there, all shifts are good, up and down.
