Not that I would but, if I were going to get rid of all my 928s I would consider an Aston Martin Vantage V8. To me it appears to be a spiritual successor to the 928. Not since I saw my first 928 back in college in the early 80's has a car struck me like this one has. I think it is absolutely beautiful and from what I read it will also be built as a volante (convertible)! Pricey, yes but I probably have enough 928s to come pretty close to covering the cost...........

Wellll, yea, but I would have to sell the house too, and then I'd be "living in a van down by the river."

...perhaps I should re-phrase the question to read "lust" after. Even if I could sell the 928s, take out a small loan and risk severe depression I'm only saying what if..... at this point. If Porsche were still building the 928 or if they do build another front engine V8 it would probably sell for much more than this AM V8.

It's unfair question. There are a lot of cars I "lust" after but cannot afford. Two of my fav's are the Pagani Zonda and the McLaren F1. (very similar looking cars)

That said, perhaps a better question would be,

"If the 928 never existed, what would you be driving?"

My answer, probably an M3 or... a Z06 Vette

Well said. I sometimes think about having a newer car with newer technology, newer styling, less things to fix and repair..... Best part for me is the soft top option of the AM V8 and like the 928 you don't see them very often.

The AM V8 is targeted at the Porsche 911 and is said to be similar in price (although I think is somewhat higher) so it's not completely out of this world or unrealistic.

I was at the store yesterday and a new red sl 500 was parked there and i was admiring it, and at the same time smiling because if my euro were parked next to it it would look newer, lower, wider, and COOLER. If my engine were running the merc would be shaking.

I have been around more exotics than most and i have ZERO envy or desire for any up to and including the enzo. My 928 has everything i need and want in a sports car and when i am finished it will be even better. It was the car i always wanted and i am very happy. The only car that comes close is the only one i have not experienced close up in person, the Vanquish. But still i wouldn't give up the shark just add. The CGT is interesting in certain colors too, but i don't have a huge desire for it.

The AM V8 is hot and would make a nice stablemate to a 928 but not a repalcement.

The 928 was done right.

For me, it would have to have at least the load capability of the 928. So, a new model M5, or an old model with some mods, or possibly a 4.6 Range Rover (last model, don't like the current one) or a Mustang with upgrades, or a Jag XK-R (or even an XJ-R - very cheap over here), or... or... or...

I hate to admit it but there are a lot of cars I would sacrifice the 928 for. Vantage, McClaren, Testarossa, Spyker, the list goes on.

If I could get my hands on a pristine condition Series 1, 4.2 litre Jaguar E-Type convertible, I think my shark would be history...

The Vantage V8 is an easy call as is the F430, imo.

Chuck,

I think you might be disappointed if you traded your 928s for the new AM Vantage. A GTS is just as good. Yes the Am is a new car blah blah blah...

The west coast launch of this car was held by AM at a party at my friend's home in Pebble Beach CA last year. It's a nice car, but you should have seen the Vanquish Zagato Cabriolet one off. Much nicer. (it was there too)

Anyway, to answer your question, I would not sell my 928 to buy another car. I would just go buy the other car. I am having that debate right now, as I am trying to decide between a Track 928/Collectible car.. We shall see what happens.

No one mentione a Bugatti Veyron as a lust car yet, but it is amazing. I had the privilege of being shown one last year at the Quail Gathering in Carmel Valley, CA... All I can say, is if you ever get the chance, go look...

Kudos on the Zonda, and MC Laren F1.

Cheers,
