Turned and Powder Coated rotors-Pics
$25 a Rotor for sand blasting and powder coating, rotors were turned for free by a friend.
I am considering having them do my valve covers and intake but I am debating on wether or not I should paint them myself.

Anyone else think he should grind off the coating where the rotor meets the wheel?

Be sure to check the WSM diagram when installing. 3/4 of the 928's I run into have the rotors on backwards.

Looks nice - I think the coating should come off the rotor to wheel contact. Alternately, I guess the ecological unfriendly cadmium coating had not been considered?
My own opin, but I like the look of the clean unblemished rotor in lieu of color contrast behind the rims.

BTW, the stock min spec for the rotors is only 2mm below factory new, total thickness (new = 32.Xmm, worn <30mm). Turning can leave them below spec. What I do is just replace the rotors when I can measure a 1mm lip at the outer edge. Yes, there is a lot of meat left, and you may not run into problems in commuter driving, but the rotors can crack under hard driving if below spec.

I just repainted mine...
[powder-coat hell! This is just cheap touch-up paint from Pep-Boys!]

PS: Of note- the disc is a different color from the caliper on purpose. The idea is to look stock. And Uhm...the cooling channels in the disc are indeed correctly oriented!

Normy - that looks nice. No more cadmium. Any HX or status update on how well it holds up? I like the continuity of color.

Most likely yes, though I don't know how significant that would be. After a second look, I'd say it would be good to have the inside hub face unfinished as well. Not because heat transfer there is a good thing, but because you want the mounting faces as true as possible.
If you have them do the intake and valve covers make sure there is no question about what should and shouldn't be coated. More can go wrong there IMHO.
