1990 S4 for sale in Northen California
After pricing the car transport companies I’ve arrived at the decision to sell my current car in California and then purchase another 928 on the East coast. So, here it is:
1990 (315 hp, airbag-equipped) Porsche 928 S4, automatic, 112xxx miles. The car’s history is kind of murky up to about four years ago – it has salvage title out of Texas – I am not sure why but can pretty much guarantee lack of water damage. I found the car during 2003 SITP (it used belong to Duane Onomiya – some of you may know him).
Maintenance-wise the car is up to date (new breaks, steering rack, timing and water pump should be good for another 20K miles, AC blows cold, etc.).
Issues:
Two circuits (I know exactly which ones) draw about 0.1 Amp each when they shouldn’t, but the battery is brand new and we have just installed a kill switch.
Chipped paint here and there and cracks it the dash.
Rear axel boots are torn.
The price is $11000 (ask me about Rennlist discount! ). The car is in San Mateo, CA and available to see by appointment (I am pretty flexible on time).
p.s. the car comes with an extra set of original "dish" S4 wheels wearing new Kumho tires.

I know your car is an excellent daily driver. And it has a nice, rare color combo.
I can't help but wonder, if selling and buying wouldn't cost you as much as or more than keeping the car and shipping, or better driving it. It's only a few days to drive - or a week with some sight seeing. Going coast to coast is really interesting, as it lets you see how the country changes so much. You might fall asleep driving through Nevada and Kansas, but there are lots of really exciting other places to see...
Remember that whenever you buy another car, there is always risk involved that you don't have with a car you know. You also have extra cost for taxes, smog tests, and all the stuff. So I'd say do it only, if you want to upgrade to a newer model...

Bill and I tried to talk him out of it. We dug all around and through that car, and unless they found something after I left, the reason for the salvage title is a mystery.
If we're going to convince him to keep it, we need to find a shop in or near NYC that he can rely on!

All you other guys go away!! I love that color and Konstantin knows it. I want it. Of course I can't afford it......for another few days, right Nicole? Well, just don't go around trying to change his mind. He doesn't want to drive that car through all of that desolate open road in Nevada at 150 mph for hours. Who would want to do such a thing? Why he might even hit some birds doing that, and ruin a windshield. And then there is Highway 80 with all of that scenic roadway through Utah and Colorado. Who would want to spend all of that time cruising such beautiful....uh, boring ....roads? Kansas is a drag. Just flat out for as far as you can see. Why with a V-1 he won't have any trouble at all seeing triple digits all day long. Why do such a thing in such a small car? Hey Konstantin, just sell me your car and save yourself all that boring grief of enjoying a true GT across America. Too many Smokey Bears anyway. And as the weather warms, more bugs will come out and smash into your blue paint. Yeah, do that. Just need a few more days to scare up the cash.
Hey Konstantin, you should really drive that machine across this nation....that's what it was intended to do. Live a little. And besides you can take lots and lots of photos along the way.

Like Dave said, we could not see any evidence of flood damage or an accident that bent anything structural, so we are not sure why the salvage title. It appears the rear bumper cover has been off as the beading is puckered in one spot. Perhaps it was just enough of a fender bender to total the car cost-wise. The electrical problems are restricted to the 100ma draw from the power windows (possibly the relay under the driver seat) and 100ma draw from the fan controller - probably defective. We just didn't have time to pull the seat or swap out the fan controller to nail that down.
Personally, I would drive the car after we take care of a few minor maintenance issues, but that may not appeal to Shmurz.

Well... my logic (and feel free to poo-poo it) is a follows:
I would like to keep a 928 for a looooong time and this particular car has several issues, which are rather costly to fix. Namely the dash and the chipped paint. I am not excited about looking at cracked dash for another 20 years. And since transport costs are a total waste car improvement-wise I figured I'd sell the car to somebody who isn't bothered by the paint/dash (like I wasn't when I bought it) - they will get a great deal and I'll add several thousand and buy a cleaner S4 or even (goody!) a GTS.
Due to extraneous reasons driving it to NYC is not really on the table - I am not going straight to my new home.

How about this theory for the salvage title? The car was stolen as some point and was recovered with minimal or no real damage, but this happened after the insurance co. already paid out the owner. If this was the case the car would automatically get a salvage title and go to a salvage auction.
