Any of you remember me calling my car the "Mud Shark" at SATL? As I said, I'm in. What's a little water?

I went back and looked at the pics I took on the last run. IIRC we got off to a late start, 9:30-9:40. We had to make a big gas stop maybe 20 mi. into the trip. . Gawking at Steve's car(attached) meant that it took us over an hour and a half to go maybe 10 miles(based on the next pic I have). Arrival at Nepenthe was ~2:20pm but if we are all rolling with full tanks at 9:00 I think we could be sitting down for lunch between 12 and 12:30 -- barring mishaps. Bill, if we hit the refuelling point and it's getting late, you could be home from there in 1-1/2 hours without breaking a sweat.

Ouch, Ouch! It hurts to see this picture again! Did he get the car detailed in the meantime?

This was such a beautiful car! I hope its organs live on somewhere else...

Just for clarification: The drive is still on and will be on unless posted here otherwise.

Let's take another look at the weather reports in the morning.

I vote for reschedule, not because of weather, but because the shark numbers have dwindled so low that Sara and I could drive around town and get the same effect!!!It would be more fun to line up 8 to 10 sharks as we had signed up prior to the weather factor.Next Sunday is bad for us because of the A1 gran prix at Laguna Seca, after that we are pretty much open on Sundays for awhile.Ive got news for you Iceman, that OT money is going to mamas purse fund!!!! Well, it looks like this is not going to make much sense this weekend. There's going to be lots of rain, and few cars.

So, let's reschedule!

Please go to the following poll and let me know which day would work for you. If we could do a Saturday, Bill Swift could more likely join us from San Diego.

Actually the forecast calls for maybe a 12% chance of rain before noon, 59% chance of rain after that.... Oh well.

Gerry, I saw your post in the other thread -- Let's keep discussion of the 5th here, future drives on the other thread.

One last time -- sound off below this post if you'll be ready to roll out of the Starbuck's parking lot at 9:00 am sharp with a full load of fuel(and empty bladders).

I can blunder through this route having been over it once but we really need a navigator who knows the route well. I can bring 4 FRS radios. Bring 'em if you got 'em.

This ride is shaping up to be one for folks who don't much care what the sky throws at us -- but just for the heck of it, here is a short-term forecast for Big Sur Sunday. I find these forecasts to be fairly accurate as weather forecasts go, but bring an umbrella & wet weather gear.

I see no point in doing the same route twice in one month.

My take is to postpone this drive until we found a new date with more stable weather, and if you guys want to get together for a Sunday drive, let's do a shorter route somewhere around here.

I'm really looking forward to *some* kind of drive on Sunday. I've been wanting to stretch the shark's legs, and putt-putting around with the 944 guys only made it worse. I'll do the drive twice, I don't care. It will be like two different drives -- one as U-boat commander and one with the garage queens

I don't see a stampede happening anyway...

Okay, now I'm getting irritated. I cancelled my appointment in Carmel on Sunday and rescheduled it for Saturday afternoon. Which is it going to be? I have done this route before, so I can lead. Be aware that much of it is Hwy 101 and some inland rural roads before Ft Ligget. Then the fun begins. So half the drive is rather uneventful.

So what's it going to be? I definitely WON'T do it again twice. Either Sunday or another day for me. Please decide so I can reschedule my Carmel appointment and cease irritating these folks. Its all you guys' fault you know. I vote for a larger crowd at a later dry date and maybe a shorter drive on Sunday, but you guys decide. I just lurk here once in awhile, anyway. Besides I need to do more socially responsible activities and am still preoccupied with that "other" issue. Can't seem to shake it.

Well, I'm fine with a shorter drive... I'd just like to get out & roll. So, who's in for a short drive then? Seems we have Nicole, Ron & myself at least kicking the idea around....

Let's do a short drive on Sunday morning. I suggest one of the following:

1. Meet at my house and drive east through Niles Canyon road and Calaveras road to Milpitas (basically, relive last years' DEVEK fun drive)

2. Meet in Redwood City, drive West on 84, then veer off towards Pescadero, continue to the coast, then North on Hiway 1 and back 84 to Skyline boulevard, then go South towards Saratoga. Or a variation of this...

Hope it doesn't rain too bad on you guys. I'll see you later in the month. Nicole, thanks for going to all the trouble to organize this and don't feel any guilt about having to make the call to postpone this due to the likelihood of bad weather. Driving in a downpour is no fun at all.
