395 RWHP is the current max with pump fuel.

Forced induction and race engines are measured on race fuel for max output. Elementary stuff.

I live in a city of a million people. The last 928 other than mine I've seen driving on the road was 10 months ago! And I drive about 30k miles a year in a four county area! I see a 944 at least 5 times a month if not more. They made lots more 944s cause it was an entry level car & lots less expensive. So since theres lots more 944s out there and they are still cheaper to buy and if anything not more expensive to maintain or find parts, wouldnt it stand to reason that there'd be lots more of em on the track too? Think you see less 928s on the track mainly cause there are less of them out there. And they are overall still more expensive to buy, get parts for & maintain than a 944. To effectively track a 928 would have to be in most instances a more expensive situation than with a 944.

Thinkin maybe Im glad that a couple of the 944 rennlisters are 944 owners and not 928 owners. Not sure if I'd want to be reading on here so much if it meant dealing with such negative condesending attitudes towards other Porsches when they've never even driven that model. Better yet, maybe someone could talk them into owning a vette or something other than a Porsche so they wouldnt be here on Rennlist bashing other Porsches and their owners. They obviously know how to hop up their cars to make them just short of being able to join the ALMS or TransAm circuit!

All Porsches are different yet came from the same great car maker. They all have their pros & cons. I'd own one of each model if I could! Including a 944 or 951! A 928 is an incredible car, unless you've owned one, not driven one once, you havent a clue all of its magnificent attributes. I'm thinkin the great minds at Porsche wouldnt have intended it to be their high end model, make it from 78-95, and still turn out junk. And especially not while making their entry level car end up being their best effort! I don't feel isolated when at an event with other Porsches, I feel as though I have the ultimate car that Porsche made! I was just at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. There were easily over 100 Porsches there together in the paddock. Every model you could imagine. 356s to Caymans. A few 928s & a couple 944s too. They all looked great to me. I had people compliment my Shark, so did one of the other Rennlisters too.

I say I'll take my "UFO German Muscle Car Spaceship" any day! Beam Me Up Scotty!!

So then, I should perhaps up boost to 12psi, run +100 octane gasoline, make a couple of good pulls on the dyno ( hoping she will stay together) and post that as my engine's HP???? At the track, I always run the car in the same configuration that I have for the street. Stock tires, stock weight, 3/4 tank of gas and I even carry a small toolbox in the trunk. Whatever times I run at the track is what I can do every single day, no prepping needed.

What's also elemantary is that race prepped and a street prepped cars are two totally different things. You post one HP and run something totatly differnt on the street.

With your car in street trim (unless your car is really light), I bet I could give you a pretty good race for your money. I haven't yet dynoed my car, but with the intercooler finally in, and the cats remove, the car must be pushing ~400rwhp. All this and the low end tourque of the 928 would be a good race.

I have ridden in a 951 at the track and would love to drive one. Seems like it would be great fun. Can't say that it felt faster per se, just different. I would bet a highly modded one would be a hoot.

I track my 928 because it is what I have and I love driving it. Plus, it is kind fun being different. 928s arent so scarce here as we usually have around 4 that turn out for our local DE events - one of the regulars drives an automatic and always comes in with a big grin on his face. Currently I drive on street tires and have not yet encountered any 951s that are any faster - could be my limited track experience? Just pointing out that I haven't been presented with any first hand experience of clear dominance. Those new fangled Corvettes readily hand me my **** tho.

I will probably never race mine - for people with meager budgets, race cars need to be cheap and disposable. It is all about fun anyways.

For those that haven't ridden in or driven a 928 on the twisties, you are likely to be surprised at how compliant these sharks are. Throttle steering is not only very possible but also very controllable. You don't get any of the turbo stories of "...boost came on too strong and the car spun".

Like I said, I would love to try a 951 at the track. By the same token, all 944/951 drivers should see for themselves what an 8 cylinder Porsche feels like. They are different. They should be.

Oh the farmer and the cowmen should be friends...

Heart of a shark! Bring it on bad boy! 1980 euro spec "S" stock rating 300hp, no A/C, no air pump, no power steering, no belt driven fan, Free flow exhaust, mittle motor pushing less than 2500 lbs. I love the shark cars. I owned a 944 and couldn't sell it fast enough. When ever I drove it I felt cheated. They are both Porsches "true" from different ends of the spectrum.

All this noise for 395 RWHP? From 951 it's a lot there's no denying it. But $5495 + $75 for shipping gets more out of othervise perfectly stock 928 S4. No need to open up the engine at all. And that's only very conservative level 1 kit of the shelf.

Well I myself am a 944 N/A owner at the present and am adding mods every day. I have driven fast cars Jags,BMW, Turbos etc. My brother owns a 86.5 928 and it hauls ***!! When you start it it growls! On the highway running 70 he cann hit the gas and sink your *** in the seat no lag there raw horse power and the the car aint even breathing hard! It will eat up alot people on the highway and if you get on a winding road hadles like the 944 just like a slot car glued to the road with massive acceleration out of the turns! I love my car fast and nimble great gas mileage. But the 928 I believe got its name as a land shark be look and the oure fact it eat most any thing at stock! My opinion

Imooo - my engine has literally hundreds and hundreds of hours of labor and testing in it.
It is tuned PERFECTLY.
I would run it at high boost all day - and I have run it at high boost at Lime Rock.
This is no bolt-on special.
My 500 plus rear wheel runs were made using a STOCK HEADGASKET - NO O-RING. That alone should tell you all you need to know.

M21 - I don't know about that 93 octane? You know my specs, I don't know yours.
Show me weight and dyno sheet, and I am good.
How far are you from Englishtown?

He is an opinionated knucklehead.

I sold my 928 then bought a 951 and could not wait to get rid of it, Then I went back to an 83 928s.

The 951 was a rocket, but they are small and impossible to work on with a hard ride. Just try to change the thermostat in one of those thing, or worse yet the turbo. The book lists the turbo R+R at 24 hours.

A 928 is so much more of a comfortable car and a whole lot easier to work on. If you want speed, Cadillac comfort, and great handling there is not much else that can beat a 928.

My 83 still turns heads.
