Denial is a sad thing just for comparison;

But just to put the power in perspective back in 1995 these were some of the performance figures between the 928 and the 1993 968 turbo S which is the climax of the 20 year development of the 924/944 Platform.

1995 Porsche 928 GTS

Displacement 5397 cc
Power 345.0 bhp @ 5700 rpm
Torque 368.8 ft lbs @ 4250 rpm
Weight 3594 lbs

1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S

Displacement 2990cc
Power 305.0 bhp @ 5,400 rpm
Torque 369 ft lbs @ 3,000 rpm
Weight: 2,865 lbs

Over 2800 made production model vs. 14 cars made by motorsport department. Can we bring in factory twin turbo S4 prototype which had basically same M28/70 engine as 928 V8 powered boats used? It makes 750 hp. Stock vs. stock 928 S4 has better power to weight ratio than any 944 series production model made. Turbo or not.

Sorry to interject here on you. But let me say that the thread you listed above is my thread. I orginally started the thread because my beautiful 1989 944T 3.0L 8V was stolen from me!! However, I would "never" bash any 928s. I love the Shark very much! Because my car was stolen I'm now "possibly", and that's a big one too, considering buying a 928 S4/GT and doing it up. I just wanted to make sure here that I didnt get any slack for someone else saying anything bad about you guys. I am pro-Shark baby!

For those of you who haven't seen my car, you can visit my web site. It's such ashame it was taken from me, especially after 2 very long years of working on it, the money invested, but more so because it was the car I always dreamed of building up. Also, we were very close to raising the bar on it's performance level too, dammit! You can visit it at www.robertricciardi.com

SharkSkin: Thanks for the compliment too. "If" I ever do get a Shark, I would build it up big time!

Cheers,

Rob

okay "pound for pound" how about psi for psi Mark's turbo 928 make more horsepower on 3 psi then than the average 951 owner does. and it cost about the same as John's stage 3 kit. But lets talk stock to stock take my 1979 928 makes 220 hp,245@ less than 8.5:1 and a 86 951 makes this but with 12 psi or so. now boost my shark 12 psi (and it can be done for about the same price as john's stage 2 kit)
Tammons take over and tell them what it like to drive a 12 psi boosted shark and this is on a 79 engine.

Paul,
I hope you didn't tell him all 928's are finished on the inside just like yours

Erkka, I love that video! I forget why Mark started so far back -- unable to attend qualifying, mechanical glitch maybe? Anyway, for such a terrible car, he manages to out-accelerate, out-corner, and out-brake an awful lot of "superior" cars. The only category where I see Lutjens pulling ahead is talk -- and that's cheap.

Rob, it's unfortunate that you're in this position.... first your car, and now your thread hijacked! Have you ever driven a 928? Whether or not you go that route, try to get some seat time. If nothing else it may help you understand why so many of us lose patience with shark-bashers! Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you'll do it well. Best of luck.

There is nothing wrong with a 951 or a 928. To say the 928 is a waste, is simply an opinion...you know what they say about opinions. I'm certain my twin turbo S4 will not end up a waste. In fact, all said and done I'll probably have less money in it than a heavily modified 951. There should be a lot more power too...if not something major would have to be wrong.

12 psig boosted 928...yup got one of those. Hard to argue with over 460 ft-lbs off the flywheel. Feels sorta like someone cut 800 lbs off of the vehicle weight.

Comments on styling are based on preferences.

Way to go -- compare a lightened factory cup car to the most heavily optioned 928. Try comparing to the 928 Club Sport. That's a bit closer, .1hp/lb compared to the 944 CST @ .11 hp/lb.

How about some of the more common examples -- Club Sports don't exactly grow on trees:

'84-88 951: .072 hp/lb
928 S4: .09 hp/lb

Enough videos, i spent a day driving hard with 2 944 variants. They do not handle as well, both were kicking up dirt when i stayed on the pavement. They do not out brake a 928. They do not out accelerate a 928. I'm sure the 928 has a higher top end, just look at porsche spec sheets.

The drivers were beating the **** out of their rides from their own words, i was not. They perform very well, BUT they are not 928's.
