MMmmmm , Snobby VW Beetle owner here, Just to spice up this already rediculious thread. I owned all 3 , 951,928S4 and 911SC and reciently sold the 951 and 928S4 to open up garage space. The 911 Beetle was just so much more fun to drive and I had to choose which car made the most sense for me. Just my .02987654321 cents worth.
There are lots of 911 owners out there. I like to think there are fewer "Snobby VW Beetle owners" out there. The difference between them? Attitude.

Just my .0928 cents worth.

No reason a 928 can't be lightened to about 3000 lbs, maybe even less. That real weight pays dividends at high speeds Tool. Ever drive on the Autobahn at over 140 or so? Thanks, but I'll take the car that can run there all day and not miss a beat.

Tool: 5.0 Liters+16-Valve Heads+2 GT series turbos=lots of power potential. What do you suppose the power limit is Tool? Modular Ford 4.6 liters are making 750 HP on 12 psig. They aren't hand grenedes either. The GTs I have coming are worthy of 400+ HP,...each. 600 HP should be easy and offer good longevity. You won't see me on here ripping on 951s, I think they are a great car as is a 911, 930, 993, 996, etc.. I actually wanted a 951 for a really long time, until I drove a turbocharged 928. Personally I like the 928 a bit better, with turbos it is simply a blast. My first Porsche was a 944. It too was a great car..rather underpowered but great handling and brakes for the era. Remember, Tool we have yet to see the results of a fully prepped 928S4 engine with moderate boost levels running modern turbocharger hardware.

Talk race gas all you want, that just says you are running mega boost to make the power. 20+ psig will have very limited life.

Longevity, does that mean anything to any of you?

Whoa - take it easy, brother.
I have been very polite in here.
You are acting like I said something bad about a 928, I never have.
I was just looking for a race, and I got one.

My 928 weighs in at right around 3000lbs Herr, probably a little less.

Now all i need is the turbos.

LOL...

Bill, that can be arranged! I'm under the car this weekend gutting out the exhaust and fitting the mock up of the charge air cooler. Once the turbos are crudely fitted into place, the engine comes out for tear-down and upgrade. My turbos should be here in 1 week, problem is I'll be in England for work! Never enough time and the clock ticks every day.

Tool, I won't be O-ringing heads either!

Dave, I'm glad you and I agree on something...FINALLY! I told you Dave, I'm really not a bad guy.

Tool, just remember when you make these statements that others will call you on it. Let's just hope you and Bill don't blow your engines in the attempt! Remember Tool, 5.0 liters is a lot of displacement. There is serious untapped potential with the 928. Imagine if one could make the power being made by the Supra and Honda crowd, or even the 951 crowd. 1000 BHP would not be out of the realm of possibility with the 928. There would only be a handful of people who could drive something like that and I'm not one of them. I think 600-650 HP in the 928s "heavy" chassis would be a great match...even then that is serious potential.

Tool, I was just pulling your chain, so relax I'm not sore with you....but you should get rid of the UFOish 928. I'm sure your car is a wild beast and I'd love to see it.

Guys, I just don't see a supped up 944 (951) being in the same class as a 928, i'm sorry. My mechanic is always gripping about the complexity and cost of the 928 and is constantly trying to woo me to the 944. I always tell him that the difference between all those cars and the 928 is simple....PEDIGREE!!!! The 928 has a long and dinstinguished history in the record books and in history.

so... you guys know that this means you should bring a camcorder to the race too and make sure we all get to see it, right? one can't create this sort of fury on a message board, then leave us all to debate what happened...

so let us know when it is/how it goes, and try and get some video for god sakes!!

Still looking into the grudge days at Atco.
We will video if M21 agrees.

Maybe my prayers will be answered and Herr-Kuhn will show up and give me a run.

If you really insist i'm sure we could record his race prepped 390+ RWHP 2500lb 951 smoking my 270ish RWHP, 3000lb, mildly hotrodded 928S. I reckon he's probably running about a 12 flat on pump gas vs my best ever 13.67.

LOL.

If he can beat a 997S by 12 lengths on pump gas, my chances are ummmm......slim, to say the least.

Of course i don't care about that much, the fun is in racing to begin with. Winning is just a nice side effect- 'gravy' if you will.

If someone really wants to give his 951 a legitimate challenge we'll need a Super model or stroker 928 to do it. On a road course i think that Anderson's 6.4liter stroker car would give him a very healthy respect for the largely untapped potential of the Projekt 928.

For me to beat him would probably require a 175hp Nitrous shot. If anyone wants to lend me one one for the race, i will happily install it.

As far as a stock 951, i'd KILL one of those. I just drove an 88' 951 turbo about three-four months ago, and it was definitely nowhere near as fast as my 928S, or my old partner tim's 85 5.0 S car. A stock 951 would give my friend Heathers 83 US A/T Shark a good run though.

Herr's system is still in early prototype stage. It would be cool to see a race when it's together though.

The power potential for a 5.0liter 32v twin turbo motor is truly bewildering. 1000RWHP is no stretch at all if the proper build precautions are taken.

Nowhere near to the same level as the 951 race prepped car is, but yes, it is definitely not stock.
