Cheap Boxsters ... Effect on 928 Prices?
I've been waiting for this day. Today I saw a Boxster at well under 20k, low miles, immaculate. Here's where the rubber meets the road on Porsche and 928 value IMHO. I think we'll see Boxsters drop hard from this point on .... they were often bought by people who were deciding between a Jetta, or US midsize and the Porsche and took the Porsche for coolness factor. Now, the car is old .... 10 years old, and their friends don't think of it as chic anymore, just old. So they've moved on to a nice new Jaguar; Mustang or Turbo Beetle etc .....
Here's where 928's and 944's get some low-price Porsche competition. Let's see what it does to the market.

the Boxster is actually going the way of the 944, inexpensive throwaway entry level Pcar
despite the fact they look small, they are actually quite comfortable, albeit limited in storage/stretching room

Many were leased cars the "owners" never owned them and now that they are out of warranty too expensive to keep running , sound familiar ? The OBD II system seems to find numerous reasons to trigger the check engine light and you can not smog one with it on ! But the real killer is you can not even see the engine from above so something like fixing a bad filler tube for the oil (common issue) you first simply remove the engine......

That said I put a few hundred miles on a new boxter years ago and once I got past the fact that it had no torque I found it very nice but still not a 928.

My opinion hacker, but from my reading, I'm not alone. Although I like porsche very much, I am a 928 fan not a porsche fan. 99 out of 100 would take a GTS over a boxster.

The 99 out of 100 thing is a crock of **** though. I love my 928’s, and would never buy a Boxster in place of one. I would consider one as an addition to; they are very fine automobiles with a totally different driving style, more of a go-cart. Some people prefer this.

Sounds like a miata to me.
I wasn't going to say this but, although, i wouldn't buy one or drive one, i do complement people on their choices. I saw a well cared for boxster at a HD and while i was looking at it, the owner walked out. I commented on the condition of his car and he said thanks, then, I asked what kind of WHEELS he had, as they were aftermarket and nice.
His response, "I think they are michelin." The comment fit the guy which of course fits the car's deserved image. Thats a fact!
I'm sure your old man is a nice guy, and of course, i didn't make the comment knowing anything about your family, but I'm quite happy with my attitude and you couldn't change it.

Think of a boxster as a great reason to supercharge. Hard top, supercharger, all the brakes and suspenions goodies you get from owning a car that had over 100,000 made, and you get a nice hobby. Much more powerful 996 engines fit nicely into boxters.
The most recent C/D has a new Pontiac solstic with a 400hp Vette engine in it. = Fun.

I just dont like them because they are slow in comparison to cars you can get in the same price range... Hell, an RX-8 is a lot cheaper, has a lot more features, has more room, and can outhandle-outpace it. When I had an 87 928 S4 auto, I raced a newer tuned Boxster S w/exhaust (can't say what else cuz i just saw it on the street), and EASILY took it. like 2-3 carlengths. The guy must've felt awful... 15 year older car (and now about $40-50k cheaper after mods) just blew his doors off.

Prices in the mid-teens for early Boxsters are common now. Spec Boxster race series will only be a matter of time. Give the Spec Miata guys something to graduate up to.
