OK hacker, fist off you presume to know my attitude in the way i treat other porsche owners and their vehicles, you don't, I drive with all and respect their choices, i just wouldn't want one.
Second you bring up a hugo, when i didn't.
Third you don't offend our parts supplier who made the same point as I, but in a much funnier and light hearted way.
I admit i have not driven a boxster, and won't, but i have driven many 911's and still prefer my 928. A 911 is better than a boxster, right?
and Fifth if we had a serious poll even among non 928'rs but still sports car enthusiasts (excluding women) I would predict my number would stand.
A GTS, arguably the best all-around porsche ever built or a porsche miata? your choice

BTW I in no way mean any slight to women when i say "girls car", in fact, I love hearing about women who drive 928's. Perhaps i should have chosen a more politically correct term. Or maybe i should watch 2.5 men more as charly sheen was a 928 owner!

hey Ernest ... so have my driving experiences in several underpowered, heavy, uncared-for 928's ..... and 968. We are undoubtedly 928 fans. I'm saying, these cars are coming to a pricepoint near you in the near future ......

Very true. Fun cars are fun cars, image be damned.
Miata: legendary handling and so many (reasonably priced!) turbo and SC kits available for the bulletproof motor that it'll make your head spin. And that's not even considering how easily a domestic small-block V8 fits in. I can also tell you from experience that wrenching on any Mazda product is a lesson in rugged simplicity.
Boxster: obviously never developed to anywhere near it's full potential by the factory, yet sold in high numbers. This means the aftermarket will grow with fun offerings. As far as 996 motor swaps, do a search on 996 engine failure rates and ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?".
I'm waiting for them to drop down to 4 figures.

I test drove one before I bought my 928. I came away thinking that the Boxster, though a nice ride, wasn't nearly as fast as the VW Corrado that I drove to the dealership that day. It had a hell of a lot less room as well.
But the main thing that bothered me: the top of the windshield was directly in my field of view, and I couldn't figure out a way to lower the seat...

What is funny about all this discussion..... How many people (or kids I should say) have a poster of the Boxster on their walls...and dreaming of the day they could possibly get one. I bet not many. The 928 was and still is a supercar...everyone in the day saw it as such..cast in movies and the like. It was something kids would dream about.
In my opinion they are two different classes..
not that I wouldn't mind having a Boxster (not that there is anything wrong with that ) but the 928 is to be lusted after.....the Boxster..well...a nice porsche no doubt...and probably fun to drive...but there is just something missing..

Miata's are fine -- I've seen and heard of some really nice ones that people AutoX. Boxters are nice too. Just because it's an "underpowered" Porsche doesn't make it a girls car... it's probably a blast to drive and it looks nice. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm sorry, 99% of every car guy on the planet would not choose a GTS over a Boxster. Its a silly statement. Next are you going to claim your dad can beat up my dad?
Go play around in the two boxster forums, you will find plenty of ex-928 owners.

I do not understand the Boxter or Miata completely (or any other car of this type), but I am sure they are fine cars. It's whatever you want. I don't want a Boxter [or Miata], but that doesn't make it a girl's car. They are both probably fun to drive, but I simply don't understand having them be underpowered when a car like that with the proper power would fly.
