In my opinion they are two different classes..
not that I wouldn't mind having a Boxster (not that there is anything wrong with that ) but the 928 is to be lusted after.....the Boxster..well...a nice porsche no doubt...and probably fun to drive...but there is just something missing..

Excellent point..... I'm sure most of us were intially attracted to 928's because of the image of the supercar that the 928 is....once we realized how cheap they have become and the performance...we just like them all the more!
20 years ago kids had posters of Ferrari 308's....Lambo Countach's...& 928's....I had posters & books about all of them! Its a bummer I don't have the psoter anymore :>(
Just like how todays kids have posters of Murcielagos...Carrera GT's and Enzos....its just that none of those cars will ever be $10K!!!

I'm sorry, 99% of every car guy on the planet would not choose a GTS over a Boxster. Its a silly statement. Next are you going to claim your dad can beat up my dad?
Go play around in the two boxster forums, you will find plenty of ex-928 owners.

Why your wife needed a second "undercarriage" is beyond me.
Everyone, whether talking about 2.5 men or panties on a porsche is saying the same thing that i said.
porsche in panties = girls car = 2.5 men skit about aunts car = 911 in panties
I doubt anyone here would seriously take a gts over a boxster, get real.
The first anniversary of my fathers death is in 1 week, thanks for the reminder.
You have been wrong from your first comment and you just persist.

To each his own...
I consider myself fortunate in being able to drive both a 928 and a Boxster. They are 2 distinctly different sports cars, but both have their merits. Yes, the Boxster does not have the power that the 928 does and also it does not have the same "I'm driving an exotic car" feel that I get when I tool around in my 928. But the Boxster is an extremely capable Porsche, one that I am not afraid to say that I enjoy as well.
To each his own.

A man that sees the bigger picture.
How about a blackout out one. 18" or 19" wheels. Big brakes, extra oil coolers in front. Possibly a twin turbo engine or a 3.8 from the 4S 996 of the same years. There are front fascias that make it no so much a girls car.
Hell, I've never even driven one. But I hear tell about how much a mid engined car is very fun.

Not really. Porsche has recently had to hold back the Cayman specifically because if it was given a 3.8 it would be almost as fast as a GT3 around the ring. Ask the Gt3 guys - they know that. A rear engined car is so out of it, porsche has engineered its way into history somehow with all that weight behind the rear axle. Look at any true supercar. Where is the engine? In the middle.

I really like the Boxster "look"...never driven one so don't know about the "feel" (I'm not referring to the panties analogy above). I'd not kick a Boxster out of bed for eating oil filler tubes though.
However, when the 928 came out...what cars did they compare it to? If I remember right, it was in the league of Farrari and other supercars. That can't be said of the Boxster.

Let me know when you are done asking every male on this planet to get your 99% figured out. I'll be waiting
Your original comment did not say only the 928 forum. It said anyone - big difference. And still 100% bull****.
Oh yea, my first comment was: "My father sold his 928 for a 2001 Boxster S" I was at his house a few days ago, the Boxster was still there, the 928 was not. So it is still correct.
I am sorry about your father, had I known that comment would not have been made.

Brendan ... yes that is true, I know. I knew a lady who was over 6 ft ..... she was in a crash in her Boxster and had a very serious concussion because the "rolllbar" hit the back of her head. Not so good

H - I'll have to drive one, and imagine 400hp. I sat in an S2000 when I bough my wife's honda. Like sitting in a match box car.
Remember that my head hits the roof in sunroof 928s with the seat all the way down. Only over bumps though - and only in the morning. We shrink during the day.

OK heinrich,
my last comment unless i am referred to again.
Go back to 1996, when some unsold 928 GTS's were still sitting on the showroom floor and i guess the boxster was fresh out of the mold.
IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT OR THE SAME STICKER PRICE WERE ON BOTH CARS.
How many people would have driven away in the boxster over the GTS?

I am really not trying to pit the Porsches against each other. You are right I would prefer a 928GTS TV. But a Boxster for the price (right now, today) of half a GTS ... that is a deal I would not pass up so easily. Please keep posting, just please you and Hacker bury the hatrchet so we can all go on with our lives ...
Brendan ... don't ever try a Crossfire ... talk about feeling like a hotdog in a bun ...

I got to babysit a Boxster for a few weeks until I managed to get it sold a few years ago it was an OK car but was too civilized too homogenized and lacking in soul just another Japanese sporty car with a terrible dash layout and that silly check engine light. I have had a couple students driving Boxsters but I usually will not drive their car preferring to thrash on the old very brown 1980 if I want to take them for a show and tell ride. I also find it amusing that all the US market Boxsters never touch German soil but are assembled in a contract assembly plant in Scandinavia. The other gem is that they tuned the sound of the ALTERNATOR cooling fan so it would sound like a Porsche aircooled 911 that really cracks me up ! So I like old 911s and 928s, that works for me
