Red face Update on LH (85-95) Tunability

So I have heard rumblings of the fact that the LH 2.2 and not yet the 2.3 is actually tunable by people by John Speake?

Meaning that with headers, a crossover, or higher fuel pressure, these motors could use a bit of tweaking to get the best power from the above mods?

This is possible now?

The SharkTuner only works with 87 and up LH systems at the momemt, and MAN does it work WELL!! I think I have the first one in the US and it is AMAZING!!! We will be selling these for John and also have rental units available. Plus we will will offer Sharktuning services here.

Question

Dave,
Can you describe how it works and if a version is planned for the earlier LH's?

Dave,
Will you be selling a wide band O2 sensor to go with it and, if so, which one?

Glenn,
>Can you describe how it works.

Pretty simple, you remove your factory EPROM (chip) plug the ribbon connector from the ST in it's place, connect a WBO2 sensor to the ST, then plug the ST into the diagnostic plug and a laptop. Start the software and open up an new or existing fuel map. Then set parameters for the size fuel injectors, and a few other easy items and start the 928. You can manually map all parameters and It even has an AutoTune feature for Idle, Cruise or WOT. it is amazing to watch it work.

Once you set you new mapping (or let it AutoTune everything) you remove ribbon connector, save the file, then load the file into an into an EPROM burner, burn your new chip and install it in your LH computer. Truly that simple.

>and if a version is planned for the earlier LH's?

I was told as soon as the EZK Ignition upgrade version is finished.

Ernest,

>Will you be selling a wide band O2 sensor to go with it and, if so, which one?

Yes, we are now wholesale with Innovate for the LM-1 or the less costly LC-1 , either will work with the SharkTuner, plus others. FYI, you do not have to have an extra 02 location in your exhaust because the LM-1/LC-1 can simultaneously send narrow Band O2 signals to your O2 Sensor connector (adapter needed and can be supplied) and WBO2 signals to the SharkTuner.

Hello Ernest,
It will work with Innovate LM-1 or LC-1, you program the Analog 2 output to a law given in the SharkTuner Uner Manual, using the software available on the Innovate website.

Alternatively you can use the TechEdge 2A0 unit. This can be stand alone external, or we can build their board into the SharkTuner.

My website has a gremlin in at present, all the details are on there...:-( Should be up in a day or so. If you PM me I can provide a shortcut link.

Regards

Hi John,

They can still get to the SharkTuner page with the direct link to the page (just did it). I am not sure if you have it ready for primetime so I will let you post the link if you desire.

Hi Dave,
My website has been out of action due to a hacker for almost a week. I know there is a link that works, but I have to confirm with my website guy that it is properly protected. I just sent him a mail.

When he confirms that, I'll post the link. I am expecting the whole site to be up "soon".

Glad to hear you're having fun :-)

Thanks guys, I almost bought an LM-1 today, looks like I MAY not need it.
Do I understand correctly that the Shark Tuner will create a map based on a full RPM run in, for instance, third gear?
Will there eventually be a crank angle input for timing variability as well?
Is there a wide band throttle position sensor in the works?

Hi Ernest,
I think Dave will have full info on his website soon..... but yes, you can tune the idle/cruise fuel map, either manually or automatically. This will usually be set to 14.7 because you will be running closed loop.

Then you can tune the WOT mappping for any (selectable) target A/F ratio, either manually or with the Autotune.

It is quite feasible to do quick runs in 2nd or 3rd gear to do an on the road re-mapping.

The EZK part of the project which has started will address ignition remapping.

Regards

Hi Guys,

I have added a quick page on my website so you can see some details, screen shots and FAQs concerning John's SharkTuner.

>How much for rental for how long.

Pricing is not set yet. I hope to be able to rent the SharkTuner and a WBO2 for $100 a week. We will also offer the chip burning service so all you do is tune your 928 with the SharkTuner. then send us the file and we send you the new chip.
