Would I be correct in assuming that EZK tuning would use knock as its limiting factor?

so - barring an international precident setting incident, when might the ezk side be done john??? I'm ready, but only want to do it once so I'm holding out for the complete package - which is WELL worth it to me....

if anybody thinks the porsche boys might have an issue w/me for bastardizing "their" ecu parameters - they'd have a frigging collective heart attack if they knew what I've already done to the rest of "their" car

"The analogy does not hold as I own the LH unit outright, as if I bought a book. I can scribble all over that book, deface it, tear the pages out, and the author or publisher have no say. I don't have a license agreement with Porsche, as I do with Microsoft. I can mess all I want with the LH or have it messsed with." - Bill Ball -

Agreed! I haven't intended to imply a copyright violation for personal use.
The key issue relates the those that SELL performance chips as was posted
early in this thread.

"Fair use allows disassembly of copyrighted code, and this has survived many court challenges in the computer industry and game console area." - Bill Ball -

Not always true. There are trade secrets associated with source code as exemplified by
some software vendors, e.g. the Microsoft OS & it's DLLs.

"Anyway, practically speaking, Porsche couldn't care less as long as it doesn't have a Porsche logo or purport to be a Porsche product." - Bill Ball -

The logo has nothing to do with it. It that the violators "pockets" aren't "deep" enough!

Bottom line: Just as it's not adviseable to post Porsche copyrighted info or links
to copyright violators on Rennlist, the posting of portions of the disassembled code
would also not be appropriate. Issue closed!

Hi Ernest
I would think that using knock detector sensing to set limits to allowable advance could be a useful way of allowing "on the road" tuning of the EZK...

As the project progresses we can investigate....

John,
For turbo could you tune using a load bearing dyno adjusting varying boost A/F at diferent RPM levels? Twenty years ago it took me forever to program a turbo boosted car using Electromotive, as the fuel requirements were different with boost varying between 0 and 15 at each rpm point. For a turbo it would also be nice to adjust spark at different boost levels.

Hi Rick,
Varying the boost at various rpm points is just varying the "load" value at each rpm point, so yes, you can do that.

One axis of the base map is load, this is related to the amount of air going into the engine.

The higher the boost, then the higher the load point.

At WOT the base map value, plus a value from the WOT map are combined to give the WOT fuelling.

I have just updated the SharkTuner page to include a link to the SharkTuner Manual in adobe PDF format.

Click here for the SharkTuner page and the PDF link :

As they say down here in the Great State Of Texas; "That there's slicker'n deer guts on a door ****!"

It seems to me that, in its current form, the Shark Tuner is not an active dyno tuning device, but "just" an optimal fuel mapping device. What I mean is that it sets the basis (Air Fuel Mapping) for dyno tuning, but doesn't offer, for instance, timing variability against which fuel mapping can be adjusted.
For example:
At 4000 to 4500 RPM you reach knock at y degrees of timing advance. By richening the mixture you gain two degrees of timing advance before knock and gain six HP.

Another way to put it is once you've used the Shark Tuner you're hooked forever as new options arrive, AND waiting for those options before using the Shark Tuner is like waiting to buy a computer before they get them perfected.
I, for one, can't wait to get "hooked".
